The Pittsburgh Steelers fan base largely wanted Justin Fields to be back in Pittsburgh during the 2025 season as the starter. Unfortunately, the quarterback agreed to terms on deal with the New York Jets on Monday, which has the Steelers trying to figure out what to do at quarterback. Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson are the most feasible options at the position, and Rodgers seems to be the strongest candidate out of the two.

Not many fans want to see Rodgers in Pittsburgh. He has been a distraction to his teams later on in his career, and his play has also declined ever since he left the Green Bay Packers. However, Pittsburgh has weapons now after the addition of DK Metcalf, and Rodgers could make things work for the Steelers. It was reported by Mike Florio on Monday that Rodgers and the Steelers are in talks and a deal is expected to be made. He took an educated guess in saying Rodgers wanted a two-year deal worth $90 million.

This rubbed Pittsburgh fans the wrong way, especially after getting out-bid by New York for Fields. However, Tone Digs of The Pat McAfee Show took to social media on Tuesday morning to combat Florio's reports.

Digs is a media personality, but Rodgers is close with the show. The veteran quarterback was typically on the show every Tuesday during the season, and he seems to have a good relationship with all of the guys on the program. It is not out of the realm of possibility that Rodgers contacted Pat McAfee or Digs and clarified that he was not asking for $90 million from Pittsburgh.

A two-year deal worth $90 million would have been more than the deal Rodgers signed with the Jets, which would be a horrible financial decision by the Steelers. There are ways to make the contract not that bad depending on where the guaranteed money is and things of that nature, but it would still be a horrible optic if the Steelers gave out a contract like that.

Rodgers is still a serviceable quarterback, but he is no longer at the level where he can be getting paid $45 million per year. The two years on the deal was also a bit shocking considering Rodgers put some thought into retirement following the 2024 season. The quarterback is 41-years old, and at this point in his career, he is not worth the money that was being reported by Florio.

Steelers Could Help Aaron Rodgers Revive His Career At 41

Rodgers' two seasons in New York were a disaster. 2023 didn't go his way after he got injured during the first game of the year, and the Jets failed to meet all expectations in 2024. While the Jets had a horrendous year, Rodgers actually played better than most may think. The quarterback had nearly 3,900 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. This production came with coaching turmoil, which would not exist in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers have a more consistent coaching situation, and Rodgers could excel while throwing the ball to Metcalf and George Pickens. Throw in another good draft class in 2025 that could help bolster the run game, and there is a chance the Steelers could take a step forward with Rodgers running the show.

Fields may have been the best option for Pittsburgh moving forward, but Rodgers provides the Steelers with the chance to win immediately, which the fan base is desperate for.
