The Pittsburgh Steelers made a blockbuster move, trading for superstar wide receiver DK Metcalf. With just one acquisition, the Steelers' wide receiver room goes from one of the worst in the league to one of the best. Pairing Metcalf with George Pickens gives Pittsburgh a dynamic duo poised to take the league by storm and provide a much-needed spark to a struggling offense. However, as of Wednesday afternoon, the Steelers still don’t know who their starting quarterback will be.

Metcalf agreed to a five-year, $150 million deal to join the Steel City, but not everyone is convinced it was the right move. While money talks, some media pundits question whether Pittsburgh was the best destination for him. Regardless, Steelers fans are fired up about adding a true game-changing weapon to the offense.

On Wednesday’s episode of First Take, Chris "Mad Dog" Russo went on a polarizing rant about Metcalf’s decision. He doesn’t expect the star receiver to thrive in Pittsburgh and went as far as to guarantee that Metcalf will regret the move by the end of the 2025 season.
"So Metcalf gets the $150 [million], and he goes to Pittsburgh," Russo said. "I guarantee by Week 5, when Wilson can’t get him the ball, he will be thinking, 'What am I doing here?' When he gets no targets, for crying out loud! If you are a receiver, you have to go to the place where the QB can get you the football."
Russo is notorious for his polarizing rants, which is why he's earned the nickname "Mad Dog," but this time, his criticism may not be as far-fetched as it sounds.

While Metcalf had some say in where he was traded, given that he needed to agree to an extension, the $150 million deal was likely too tempting to turn down. However, it's eye opening because the Steelers quarterback situation remains uncertain. That said, Metcalf probably understands that the Steelers have a solid plan in place, even if the immediate quarterback question remains up in the air.
"To go where there’s no QB is ridiculous," Russo said. "You can’t take the money on the field. You are going to be sitting on the field in the middle of November on a bad team, getting two catches per game."
Metcalf is an intriguing addition to the Steelers, not just because of his talent, but because he's one of the hardest receivers to stop in the NFL. He’s massive, fast, and plays with relentless intensity. However, like Pickens, Metcalf has a tendency to fade when he’s not involved in the game, which is exactly why Russo predicts that Metcalf won’t be happy by Week 5.
Steelers' Quarterback Situation Remains Super Critical
While Russo’s rant might be a bit over the top, it’s hard to ignore Metcalf’s status as a star wide receiver. With him and Pickens on the field together, even an average quarterback could look solid. That’s why the Steelers’ quarterback situation remains so critical. If Pittsburgh can find a quarterback capable of elevating their offense, the Steelers' once-weak attack could finally transform into a strength.
