Steelers The Victim Of Brutal Rant From Former RB: "Is This The Browns?"

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the midst of a slight rough stretch as an organization. The franchise has not won a playoff game since the 2016 NFL season, and it is fairly difficult to be optimistic about the future currently. Pittsburgh doesn't even have a hint of a franchise quarterback, and its once elite defense is aging fast. There needs to be some sort of philosophical shift as an organization, or the Steelers could find themselves stuck in this area of NFL-purgatory for a long time.

The Steelers are one of the biggest stories in the NFL as the team still does not have a reliable starting quarterback under contract for the 2025 season. The organization went out and signed Mason Rudolph, but he cannot be the starter going into the season if the team wants a legitimate shot at a Super Bowl. The franchise needs to have a better plan than that, especially after trading for DK Metcalf. Pittsburgh gave up a second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and also committed $150 million to the wide receiver, which makes the question marks at quarterback even more concerning.

Former NFL running back LeSean McCoy brought this up during an episode of The Facility on Tuesday morning. The addition of Metcalf is great, but it doesn't do anything without a quarterback, which makes it a move even a good organization doesn't pull off. This is what McCoy was arguing, while comparing Pittsburgh to some of the worst franchises in the league.

"This is the first time, I got to be honest, that the Pittsburgh Steelers look like an incompetent franchise," McCoy said. "You go out there, spend $125 million on a superstar wide receiver with no quarterback. What are we doing here? Is this the Steelers or is this the Jets? Is this the Browns, is this the Colts? I'm disappointed with the Steelers franchise, what they're doing right now."

McCoy has a point. Immediately after the Steelers made the trade for Metcalf, which included signing him to an extension, many fans believed the move meant that the organization had a plan at quarterback. That doesn't seem to be the case, as all the Steelers have done for the position is sign a backup while giving Aaron Rodgers his sweet time to make a decision on his future.

The Steelers have been looking to upgrade the wide receiver position for a little while, and it is good the franchise was finally able to pull it off. No one is complaining about acquiring Metcalf in Pittsburgh, but it is hard to be excited about the star if there is not a reliable passer to deliver him the football.

There is still the chance that the Steelers can shock everyone and prove the organization has had a plan at quarterback all along, but it doesn't seem like the position will be very productive for Pittsburgh in 2025. If it isn't Rodgers behind center, it will probably be Rudolph or a rookie. It is hard to be optimistic about the Steelers competing in the AFC with those three options at quarterback.

Steelers Could Be Forced Into Drafting A Quarterback In The First Round

The Steelers currently hold the 21st pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and it should be safe to assume that both Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders will be off the board by that time. Some believe Sanders could slide, but it is more than likely that he will be off the board within the first 10 picks. The most likely option at quarterback for the Steelers would be Jaxson Dart, who has a strong chance of being available.

Scouts have mixed feelings about Dart. Some believe he is a first-round talent, while others think he will be a Day 2 pick. If the Steelers don't have a better plan materialize by the time of the draft, Dart may be the only option.
