Steelers Fans Already Frustrated With Waiting On Aaron Rodgers: "He's Definitely In The Driver's Seat"

The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be patiently waiting for quarterback Aaron Rodgers to decide what he wants to do in 2025. The Steelers and the New York Giants reportedly offered Rodgers deals. Then the Minnesota Vikings suggested they might be interested in talking with Rodgers because their planned starter, JJ McCarthy, was out for his 2024 rookie season with a meniscus injury. While he appears to be healing, there is no guarantee he will be ready to go Week 1 of this season. Rodgers would buy them some security. The rumor was that Rodgers was more interested in going to Minnesota than in the other teams.

However, the Vikings have said they are out on Rodgers for now, at least. They plan to stick by McCarthy, which leaves Rodgers three options as of this moment: Pittsburgh, New York, or retirement. Steelers fans rapidly became disillusioned with the whole Rodgers saga. While many respect his right to take time to decide, they say it feels as if he is holding the team hostage. Even Steelers fan-favorite Cameron Heyward indicated on his podcast that no sales pitch is needed. It's the Pittsburgh Steelers, you come, or you don't.

Steelers reporter Mark Kaboly from The Pat McAfee Show has been discussing "Rodgers watch" on his podcast, Kaboly and Mack, with his co-host Chris Mack since it began. Kaboly has said he believes that Rodgers offers the Steelers something new, so if he is willing to come to Pittsburgh, it makes sense to take a chance on him. Mack said that he hears the mounting frustration among the fans, and many who wanted Rodgers are now sick of it.

"Aaron Rodgers, to anyone's knowledge, has not said one word yet," said Kaboly about all the speculation surrounding Rodgers. "Yet we are projecting what he might be thinking through something that we don't know. We don't know what he's saying, but we apparently despise him for some of the things that he didn't say that we are assuming he may have said. I just think he's definitely in the driver's seat right now; if he's going to play in 2025, he's gonna play for the Pittsburgh Steelers."

Kaboly said even if people are sick of waiting, that doesn't solve the problem. He feels that Russell Wilson is just waiting on the Steelers. Regarding these two older veterans, Pittsburgh is still the most desirable place.

Mack added that he doesn't "despise" Rodgers, nor does he think most of the fans do; they are just anxious for a resolution. People feel that the offseason cannot move forward without settling the quarterback situation. While General Manager Omar Khan did pull off a massive trade deal for wide receiver DK Metcalf, not much else has happened.

The Steelers Have Limited Options

Kaboly feels part of Pittsburgh's willingness to wait is their limited options. They can roll it back with Wilson, but they saw exactly what he can provide during 2024. They have also re-signed Mason Rudolph, and while Heyward says they are good with that, the team also knows that Rudolph struggled with consistency and postseason wins even more than Wilson.

There are other names who enter the realm of possibility, such as Kirk CousinsJoe Milton, and Joe Flacco. There is also a possibility that the Steelers decide to select a quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft. They reportedly really like Jaxson Dart and Will Howard. They also had dinner with the University of Alabama's Jalen Milroe, who stunned Pro Day visitors by running a 40-yard dash in 4.37 seconds
