The Pittsburgh Steelers held a visit with 41-year-old veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Friday, and even skipped the University of Michigan Pro Day to do so. Among the Steelers, the other two most notable NFL teams still looking to add at quarterback include the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants, and both have shown interest in Russell Wilson. After the news broke that Rodgers had spent nearly six hours in the Steelers' building on Friday, the Giants decided to sign free agent Jameis Winston, which some thought would take New York out of contention for signing another quarterback.

With the Giants holding the third overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, their chances of drafting a quarterback could be high. On Saturday, Jeremy Fowler and Randy Scott, members of ESPN, broke down the quarterback situations around the NFL. Fowler explained that while the Giants were able to add Winston to their quarterback room, it's still quite possible they go out and try to sign another passer, as well as taking one in the draft.

"[Russell Wilson is] not totally off Pittsburgh's list. Still in the mix with the Giants," Fowler said. "Despite that Winston signing, my sense is the Giants have looked at signing two free agent quarterbacks and then they can still draft one. They're ready to start from scratch on their quarterback room."

Currently, the Giants only have Winston and backup Tommy DeVito under contract for 2025. If the Giants went out and signed another quarterback, as well as drafting one, New York would be left with four quarterbacks, and DeVito could end up being released. After Fowler's report, Scott asked if the Winston signing would preclude them from also bringing in Wilson, since it doesn't seem likely Rodgers will end up in New York.

"Or Rodgers, actually, I was told," Fowler followed up. "They're still not totally out of it on Rodgers. They're not the favorite, and they kind of know it, still in the mix."

To this point, the only team that has received a visit from Rodgers is the Steelers. Wilson, on the other hand, traveled to both Cleveland and New York, as he waits for Rodgers to finally make a decision.

Ultimately, whatever Rodgers decides to move forward with, whether that's singing with Pittsburgh or New York, or even possibly retire, will lead where Wilson ends up for 2025. It's now evident that Wilson was never the Steelers' top choice as the league entered free agency, and with Justin Fields signing elsewhere, Rodgers now seems to find himself at the top of their list.

The Steelers will be in an even tougher situation if the Giants are able to additionally sign Wilson or Rodgers, especially if the other decides to not sign with Pittsburgh. New York has the potential to really mess up any hopes the Steelers had of singing a free agent quarterback, and they could eventually be forced to reach on one in the upcoming draft.

Steelers Could Have Surprise Quarterback Option

If the Steelers do manage to completely flunk this quarterback dilemma, it could be possible that Omar Khan and the Steelers have a sneaky option up their sleeve that could be the last resort.

Ideas of completing a trade for a passer have floated around all of the 2025 offseason, including the short-lived rumors regarding Matthew Stafford and Trevor Lawrence. Unsure as to who is potentially available via trade, the NFL withholds a handful of young and struggling prospects that show elite athleticism, like Anthony Richardson or Joe Milton III

Steelers could take a swing on Patriots' quarterback Joe Milton III in 2025, as he runs in for a score in 2024.

Regardless of who the third "wildcard" option could potentially be, Pittsburgh needs to have an additional option other than Wilson or Rodgers. Where do you think Rodgers and Wilson both end up? Will either of them head to New York along with Winston? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
