The Pittsburgh Steelers are in an interesting situation as the 2025 NFL Draft quickly approaches. The class is not being lauded for its quarterback prospects, but as the organization waits for Aaron Rodgers to make his decision, it is expected to do its due diligence when it comes to the signal-caller position. It would be looked at as an extreme reach to draft one in the first round, especially because there are arguably only two with first-round talent, and both are expected to be off the board before the 20s rolls around. It will be interesting to see if the team invests in the position in the middle rounds.

General Manager Omar Khan and Head Coach Mike Tomlin already took Alabama's Jalen Milroe out to dinner ahead of his pro day, which hinted at the fact that the front office and coaching staff are looking at some of the quarterbacks. It has now been reported that the franchise is showing a little bit of interest in another signal-caller. This time, one that was looked at as a first-round prospect a little over a year ago.

Quinn Ewers is an intriguing player as the draft rolls around. No one is quite sure how the board is going to fall when it comes to the quarterback spot, but he could be in play for the Steelers in the third or fourth rounds. It really all depends on if there is an unexpected run at the position once day two rolls around or not. It is certain, however, that if Pittsburgh met with Ewers before the University of Texas' Pro Day on Tuesday, there is some interest there.

One of the disadvantages of Rodgers taking his sweet time deciding is that the team has no clue what round it might truly want to draft a signal-caller in. Regardless if the 41-year-old comes to town or not, however, the organization may be planning on drafting one at some point. Ewers is a fascinating 6'3" and over 200-pound body; and he threw 31 touchdowns in 2024.

While it appears that Ewers and the Steelers didn't head out for any kind of dinner, it is still noteworthy that the team's brass wanted to get to know him a little bit better before his pro day. It's completely possible that if Pittsburgh didn't see him as a fit for the organization, no one would need to pay too much attention to him on Tuesday when he works out.

Fans in the Steel City can begin to get used to the franchise meeting with and getting to know quarterback prospects in the coming weeks. It is completely possible that the staff falls in love with one and sees him as a legitimate target early on the third day of the draft. There are several other needs that need to be filled, especially on the defensive line, but the position that matters most in the NFL is the offensive signal-caller. The Steelers seem to seriously be doing some due diligence.

Steelers Feeling The Mistakes That Have Been Made In The Past Few Years

It's no secret that a legitimate starting-caliber quarterback is essential at the professional level. After the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger, the franchise has pretty much failed all the way around in attempting to replace him. Another year has come and gone without a playoff win, and the team's leaders are once again doing homework on the position. Whether it's in 2025, 2026, or both, the fan base is hoping the long-term future starter can be drafted sooner rather than later.
