Report: Steelers Bringing In First-Round QB Prospect For Official Top 30 Visit

The Pittsburgh Steelers still have no idea who will be under center when the 2025 regular season kicks off. Aaron Rodgers has made it clear (without saying a thing) that he is going to take his time deciding on what the next step of his career will be, with retirement also being possible. Regardless of what the veteran decides to do, the long-term answer is not currently on the roster, and won't be unless the team decides to draft a quarterback at the end of April. There has been some buzz about the organization reaching in the first round, and that reality is becoming more and more possible as each day passes by.

There are not too many signal-callers being praised as first-round prospects in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft Class. Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are expected to go early on, but another individual has been rising. Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart could hear his name called in round one, and it could be the Steelers that end up selecting him.

Mike DeFabo of The Athletic is reporting that Dart will be headed to the Steel City for an official Top 30 visit in April. This is very notable because the organization typically shows its cards when it comes to interest. Most of the early-round selections in recent drafts have been on one of these trips to Pittsburgh. Dart has the tools to start right away, but might not have a very high ceiling. DeFabo gave some more context.

"Dart, rated by The Athletic’s draft guru Dane Brugler as the third-best available quarterback, is likely the first passer the Steelers might be able to realistically consider," DeFabo wrote. "Projecting when he will be drafted is a challenge. Some talent evaluators think Dart could be selected within the first half of the first round, while others believe he’ll still be available in the middle rounds. But what will the Steelers think?"

Dart had a great final season for the Rebels, throwing for 4,279 yards and 29 touchdowns. On top of that, he only tossed six interceptions. He is looked at as being NFL-ready, but that will make Steelers fans anxious. The same was said about Kenny Pickett back in the 2022 pre-draft process. Everyone knows how that ended up going for the franchise.

The 2026 draft class is expected to be a bit stronger than 2025, but there is no guaranteeing that any of the top prospects will be available come Pittsburgh's first-round pick roughly a year from now. If the Steelers do really like Dart and think he can be the leader of the offense for the next decade or more, no one should be surprised if the decision is made to draft him with the 21st overall selection.

Steelers Are Likely To Draft A Quarterback At Some Point In 2025 NFL Draft

Dart isn't the first to be reported as a Top 30 visit for Pittsburgh at the quarterback position, and he won't be the last. Louisville's Tyler Shough also has been linked to the team via a Top 30 visit, per DeFabo's tracker for The Athletic.

However, he is an intriguing prospect that projects as a starter quite early on in his career. The organization is clearly interested in this class, which is a bit concerning because of the talent. With that said, the fan base should be expecting General Manager Omar Khan to draft a signal-caller in 2025.
