The Pittsburgh Steelers haven't been certain about their quarterback position for quite some time now. When the 2024 season ended, Team President Art Rooney II made it very clear that the team had interest in either bringing back Russell Wilson or Justin Fields, the two quarterbacks who played for Pittsburgh that year. However, both players signed cheap deals elsewhere in free agency—contracts the Steelers easily could have afforded. That showed a clear lack of interest in bringing back either Wilson or Fields, leaving the team without a clear answer at quarterback heading into the offseason.

The Steelers have been heavily entangled in a saga for the 41-year-old veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. It’s starting to appear like Rodgers is the Steelers’ only option, and the Steelers are his best option, which has led many insiders to believe Rodgers will be Pittsburgh’s starting quarterback in 2025. However, no one truly knows what Rodgers is thinking, and the uncertainty has kept the Steelers' quarterback situation in flux as the offseason progresses.

On Monday morning, NFL insider Mike Garafolo shared some news on Good Morning Football that added even more intrigue to the situation. According to Garafolo, new Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf was spotted working out with Rodgers in an exclusive session. The workout has sparked speculation about a possible connection between Rodgers and the Steelers, raising questions about whether Pittsburgh is positioning itself for a major move at quarterback.
"Look, it is a process for Aaron Rodgers, and my understanding is that the latest step in the process was over the weekend at UCLA, where he threw to DK Metcalf," Garafolo said. "They did have a throwing session, the two of them together—our sources confirmed that workout. Rodgers is going through the process and checking all the boxes. I assume it was a good throwing session there."
NFL insider Ian Rapoport quickly jumped in to add to Garafolo’s report, emphasizing that he had heard the workout between Rodgers and Metcalf went very well. While details of the session remain scarce, Rapoport’s comment only fueled more speculation about Rodgers’ potential fit in Pittsburgh. If the chemistry between the veteran quarterback and the star receiver is already strong, it could be another sign that Rodgers is inching closer to joining the Steelers. Something many Steelers fans are beginning to accept as the desperation for clarity on the 2025 starting quarterback grows.

With the Steelers still searching for stability at quarterback, a move for Rodgers would bring instant credibility to the offense. Pairing him with a dynamic weapon like Metcalf could be exactly what Pittsburgh needs to compete in 2025. However, until Rodgers himself confirms his plans, the situation remains up in the air.
For now, all eyes are on Rodgers and what his next move will be. The Steelers appear to be keeping their options open, but with each new report, the connection between Rodgers and Pittsburgh grows stronger. If this workout was as good as Rapoport suggested, it might not be long before Rodgers officially becomes the next quarterback of the Steelers.
Steelers Fans' Patience Is Wearing Thin Regarding Aaron Rodgers
The Steelers fan base hasn’t been entirely thrilled about the idea of pursuing a 41-year-old quarterback, especially given the hefty price tag that comes with him. On top of that, Rodgers' polarizing nature only adds to the drama of bringing him to the Steel City. However, the prospect of pairing Rodgers with Metcalf and star wide receiver George Pickens is undeniably intriguing, even if some Steelers fans remain skeptical.

Still, as the offseason unfolds, the likelihood of Rodgers becoming the Steelers' starting quarterback in 2025 continues to grow. If it happens, it will dominate headlines and bring plenty of drama to Pittsburgh. Regardless of where they stand on the move, Steelers fans are growing eager for clarity on the team’s quarterback situation.
