The Pittsburgh Steelers seem content with waiting on Aaron Rodgers to decide if he wants to come to the Steel City or not for the 2025 season. While the potential addition of Rodgers could certainly provide a short-term solution, the Steelers are aware that they need to plan for a quarterback beyond the 2025 season. The 2025 NFL Draft class is considered relatively weak at the quarterback position, but that hasnโ€™t deterred Pittsburgh from doing serious homework on the position.

Despite the limited options in the 2025 draft, the Steelers are still exploring all possibilities. On Tuesday, news broke that top quarterback prospect Shedeur Sanders would be visiting with Pittsburgh ahead of the draft. Sandersโ€™ visit is a clear indication that the Steelers are keeping their options open, even with the uncertainty surrounding Rodgers' potential arrival.

On Thursday, Sanders joined Kay Adams on her show Up & Adams, where he discussed his visit with the Steelers. Adams asked Sanders about his time with Pittsburgh and his impressions of Head Coach Mike Tomlin. Sanders made it clear that he loved his visit, highlighting the positive connection he made with the Steelers' coaching staff and the organization. This only adds more intrigue to the team's quarterback situation heading into the future.

"You see everything," Sanders said. "I enjoyed my time here in Pittsburgh. I think I connected well with all of the coaches. It was real fun."

Adams asked Sanders directly about Tomlin, and Sanders responded candidly, sharing his respect for the Steelers' head coach. He acknowledged that Tomlin's consistent success over the years has contributed to the team's historical winning culture. Sanders admitted he could feel the energy from Tomlin and knows why the Steelers win a lot of games with him.

However, many Steelers fans feel Tomlin has fallen short in recent years, especially given the lack of playoff victories since the 2016 season, despite his remarkable ability to avoid losing seasons. Sanders went on to compare Tomlin to his college coachโ€”and fatherโ€”Deion Sanders, highlighting the similar leadership qualities that have earned both men respect in their respective coaching careers.

"It was a 10," Sanders said when asked to grade his visit to the Steel City. "It was a 10."

Sanders is an intriguing prospect, likely the second quarterback on the board. With the Steelers picking 21st overall in the first round, it's uncertain whether he'll still be available when they're on the clock. Of course, the Steelers could get aggressive and trade up if they see Sanders slipping. The question of where heโ€™ll land is still up in the air, with some experts projecting him to go early in the first round, while others believe he could fall right to the Steelers at 21.

Regardless of where he ends up, the Steelers are clearly very interested in Sanders. Theyโ€™re doing extensive homework on every top quarterback in this draft class. In fact, they recently had another quarterback prospect, Jaxson Dart, in for a pre-draft visit, with others scheduled. Whether or not they land Rodgers, the Steelers are determined to find their future franchise quarterback.

Steelers Seriously Want To Find Their Next Franchise Quarterback In 2025 NFL Draft

They clearly see Sanders as a player with the potential to be that guy, but the real question remainsโ€”will they be in the right position to make him their next quarterback? If they do, it could signal the start of a new era in Pittsburgh, one with a dynamic, young leader at the helm. However, with so many variables at play, the Steelers' quarterback search could very well come down to timing and the opportunities that arise as the draft unfolds.

The decision could ultimately hinge on the flow of the draft and which teams are targeting quarterbacks ahead of Pittsburgh. If Sanders slips, the Steelers may have a chance to snag him without having to give up significant assets. Yet, if he goes early, they'll have to evaluate whether to roll with their current options or keep looking for the right fit. In the end, Pittsburgh's front office is likely weighing every possible scenario to make sure they donโ€™t miss out on their future at the position.
