The Pittsburgh Steelers can do anything in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. It seems like a quarterback is still on the table if either Shedeur Sanders or Jaxson Dart falls to Pittsburgh at 21, while making a significant trade back, or up, is also an option. A large portion of the fan base wants to see the team address the interior defensive line, but the offensive issues are also difficult to ignore. Pittsburgh has shown interest in a wide variety of top-flight prospects, which makes it a complete guessing game when it comes to what the organization will do.

Some teams take more stock in pre-draft visits and things of that nature, but for the Steelers, a pre-draft visit is typically a good indicator that a player could be picked by the team. The franchise's first-round pick usually comes from the list of 30 prospects that are brought into the facility, and the Steelers have shown a trend in that department during the 2025 offseason. Of the 30 pre-draft visits hosted by Pittsburgh, nine players brought in were running backs. Team insider Brian Batko reported on Tuesday that the organization was hosting TreVeyon Henderson and RJ Harvey.

I'm starting to think the Steelers might draft a running back, friends. That's 9 of the 30 visits. Only top-tier guys not to come through are Ashton Jeanty and Quinshon Judkins.
Henderson is an interesting player that has garnered some first-round buzz in the weeks leading up to the event. Some view him as one of the most complete backs in the draft as he is fantastic as a pass catcher and in pass protection. He has great burst paired with balance that helps him stay on his feet through contact, which is something elite backs at the NFL level possess.

Buckeyes' TreVeyon Henderson runs away from Texas during a college football playoff game in 2024.
Henderson is coming off of a National Championship with the Ohio State Buckeyes where he formed an electrifying backfield duo with Quinshon Judkins. Both players are viewed as second-round picks, but Henderson has a chance to go on the first night. Henderson has all the tools to be a great professional, and he is as selfless as college players come in today's day and age. Judkins was the top transfer in the portal during the 2024 offseason, and Henderson wanted him to come to Ohio State. He knew Judkins might eat into his carries, but the back only cared about winning. This is an attribute NFL teams take notice of.
All signs point to Pittsburgh spending a draft pick on a running back, it just depends in what round. The only running back that really has a chance to go in the first round to Pittsburgh is Omarion Hampton, but he could be gone way before the Steelers' selection. The organization could reach for Henderson, but the most likely outcome is that the team waits to draft a running back until Round 3 or Round 4.
Steelers Should Not Reach For TreVeyon Henderson
Henderson is a great player with a ton of promise, but it just wouldn't be worth it to reach for him with the 21st overall pick. He has had injury issues throughout his college career, which may make it hard for him to stay on the field for the Steelers. Pittsburgh will also have a fairly inexperienced offensive line going into the 2025 season, and with all the shuffling at the tackle spots, it doesn't make sense to spend a premium pick on running back.

The Steelers need to address the defensive line or quarterback in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. These are the two biggest needs, especially since Aaron Rodgers still has not signed with the team.
