Steelers Fans Could Get Their Impossible Wish If Aaron Rodgers Screws Them Over Last Minute

The Pittsburgh Steelers have only had three head coaches since the 1969 season. From Chuck Noll to Bill Cowher to Mike Tomlin, the Steelers have won a Super Bowl with each coach as well. Tomlin has been the Steelers' head coach for 18 seasons now and has remarkably never had a losing season. However, despite his regular season success, Tomlin has not won a playoff game in nearly a decade, with his last postseason victory coming in the 2016 season. This long stretch of playoff failures has left many fans questioning his ability to lead the team to another championship.

While Tomlin's overall record is impressive, there is growing frustration among Pittsburgh fans who feel he has failed to get the Steelers over the hump in the postseason. National media often protect his legacy, but Steelers fans have become increasingly vocal in their desire for change. Many believe it might be time for a new era of leadership to return the team to glory. Yet, it doesn’t seem like the Steelers are anywhere near pulling the trigger on a coaching change anytime soon.

However, Steelers insider Mark Kaboly raised an interesting point in his recent article, prompting a new wave of speculation. He believes that the Aaron Rodgers saga could be the twist Pittsburgh fans have been waiting for. With the drama at an all-time high, if the Steelers, particularly Tomlin, fail to land Rodgers, it will be difficult to avoid serious doubts about everyone involved.

"I will publicly admit to this: If Rodgers doesn’t sign with the Steelers, no matter how they spin it, it will make them look foolish," Kaboly wrote. "In turn, everybody who has a say on things like this needs to be second guessed and questioned, and scrutinized. You don’t let the most polarizing figure at the highest profile position in your sport put you in a bad situation without, at the minimum, getting some severe criticism."

Steelers fans have been calling for change, but that notable change has yet to come. No coach could survive nearly a decade without a playoff win, yet Tomlin has. This longevity is partly because he consistently gets more out of his teams than expected, which has prevented many from viewing him as a failure, especially those outside Pittsburgh. However, many argue that Tomlin is the one responsible for having less to begin with.

His ability to rally his players, even in seasons where expectations are lower, has earned him respect and shielded him from much of the criticism that other coaches in similar situations would face. However, despite that, the fact remains that the Steelers’ inability to break through in the postseason is an undeniable issue.

In the Steel City, however, coaches are judged by recent success, and fans feel Tomlin has had ample time without adapting to the modern NFL. They argue that his approach, while often effective during the regular season, hasn’t translated to playoff success in recent years.

For many, it’s become clear that a new direction might be needed to revive the franchise’s championship hopes. Kaboly’s recent comments raise an interesting point—if the Steelers fail to land Rodgers, the fallout could be so significant that it would shine a negative spotlight on Tomlin, Art Rooney II, and everyone involved in major decisions.

Steelers Could Reach A Tipping Point

If Rodgers ultimately doesn’t come to Pittsburgh, it would be seen as a major missed opportunity. The fallout from that failure would be hard to ignore and would likely lead to intense scrutiny of the entire Steelers leadership. Fans and critics alike would demand answers, and that could finally force the organization to take a hard look at its future.

That could be the tipping point the Steelers need to start a new era with a fresh head coach. If Rodgers ends up backing out, it would undoubtedly frustrate fans, but the silver lining might be that the pressure on Tomlin intensifies to the point where he’s finally held accountable for his team’s shortcomings. This could mark the beginning of the change that many Steelers fans have long been waiting for.
