The Pittsburgh Steelers' entire saga with Aaron Rodgers has grown very stale. The team entered the 2025 offseason with the expectation that either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields would return under center. However, it didn’t take long for the narrative to shift. The Steelers became infatuated with Rodgers, believing that while they are still actively searching for a younger franchise quarterback, the future Hall of Famer could serve as a high-level bridge option to keep them competitive in 2025.

All signs continue to point toward Rodgers eventually joining the Steelers, but as time drags on, frustration among fans grows louder. There’s a sense that the team is waiting on Rodgers while missing out on other potential options. The uncertainty around whether he’ll retire or suit up again has left the franchise—and its fan base—stuck in limbo.

Rodgers’ former teammate and current NFL Network analyst Will Blackmon added fuel to the conversation on Friday. While Blackmon only spent a brief time with Rodgers in Green Bay, he offered insight into the quarterback’s mindset and outlook. According to Blackmon, Pittsburgh’s 2025 schedule could be a deciding factor in Rodgers’ decision. If Rodgers sees a realistic path to winning with the Steelers, Blackmon believes it will be enough to get him back on the field one more time.

"When I look at all the greats and the legends, for them to make a decision, they need some fuel to keep going," Blackmon said Friday. "I took a look at the Steelers' [2025 opponents]. They play Green Bay at home, check."

The Steelers’ 2025 schedule includes a few matchups that could strongly appeal to Rodgers. They’re set to face the Green Bay Packers, his former team, as well as the Chicago Bears—an opponent he’s famously dominated and openly mocked throughout his career. Both games would offer Rodgers a chance to remind the league of who he is on the biggest stage.

However, the most intriguing matchup is against the New York Jets, the team Rodgers believes mishandled his exit. The opportunity for revenge could be a major motivator in his decision to join the Steelers. With all three of those teams on Pittsburgh’s schedule, the narrative potential alone might be enough to tempt Rodgers into making one final run.

"They go to Chicago, which Aaron Rodgers apparently owns, check," Blackmon said. "And they go to the New York Jets. Based off everything he said, clearly, he is furious with the situation, how it was handled. It's either Steelers or nothing, I think."

Rodgers appeared on The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday and finally addressed the growing speculation surrounding his delayed decision. While he dismissed several rumors in his typical calm fashion, he didn’t exactly ease the minds of Steelers fans hoping for clarity. Rodgers offered no firm commitment—just more uncertainty for a franchise and fanbase desperately seeking direction at quarterback.

Steelers Offer Aaron Rodgers Something Other Teams Can't

Rodgers did reveal that he paid out of pocket to fly in and meet with new Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn and other key decision-makers. However, according to him, Glenn quickly made it clear the team was heading in a different direction. Rodgers was disappointed with how the Jets handled his exit, and now he’s weighing whether, at 41, he has the energy and drive to endure another NFL season.

If he does choose revenge as motivation, the Steelers offer a perfect path—facing the Jets, a competitive veteran roster, and a defense built to contend with the right quarterback in place. At least on paper, Rodgers could turn Pittsburgh into a serious threat.
