The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to be all over the headlines when it comes to a very questionable quarterback situation. Regardless of who is under center for the team in 2025, the individual will likely not be a long-term solution. The organization could reach for a signal-caller in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, but no one is quite sure how the franchise will find stability at the most important position in all of sports. Local and national media pundits have been attempting to figure out what General Manager Omar Khan will do to rectify a big-time problem in the Steel City.

It will be interesting to see if the Steelers take a defensive lineman in Round 1 and then end up waiting to see which quarterbacks are left in the third. Pittsburgh gave up its second-round selection for DK Metcalf in a huge trade just prior to the new league year beginning. There is always the possibility of finding a way back into Round 2, but it takes two to tango in those situations.
Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson are currently the only two signal-callers on the roster as the team continues to wait on Aaron Rodgers. Respected NFL analyst and former player Dan Orlovsky took note of this on Monday's edition of Get Up. He is not a fan of how the Steelers are currently set up when it comes to the quarterback spot.
"I would start with this," Orlovsky said. "I don't think that there's a team in the NFL that is in a worse situation when it comes to the quarterback position than the Pittsburgh Steelers. The only team that I can think about that is in the conversation is Cleveland [Browns]."
The analyst continued to speak about options for Pittsburgh and said that he is loving the idea of Jalen Milroe going to the Steelers with the 21st overall pick. That would be looked at as a serious reach, but the organization has put itself in a position where that might be necessary. Franchises need a top-tier quarterback to win consistently in the NFL, and that hasn't been the case in the Steel City for some time.

Pittsburgh has always wanted to win because of defense, and that remains the case, but it is becoming increasingly more concerning that the team hasn't figured out a permanent quarterback solution. With all due respect to Rudolph and Thompson, neither of them is the answer, and even if Rodgers comes to town, he will likely only play one or two more seasons before retiring.
This is a serious issue that the Steelers are contending with as the NFL Draft approaches, and there's no doubt that Khan and co. will have the ability to take a signal-caller in the first round. The question arising is if the decision will be made to reach or not. The 2026 class is expected to be outstanding, so no one is quite sure if Pittsburgh will hold off on the first-round selection of a quarterback in 2025 or not.
There are some prospects like Milroe that have potential, but Orlovsky hit the nail on the head regarding the position. Nearly every team in the league has a legitimate plan for the 2025 season when it comes to who is running the offense; the Steelers do not.

Steelers Are Feeling The Pain Of 2022 Draft Decision
Many fans would have loved if they were told back in 2022 that Kenny Pickett would be a Super Bowl champion by his third professional season. Unfortunately, that ring is with the Philadelphia Eagles. There was excitement surrounding his first-round selection a few years ago, but it is clear that the franchise is still feeling some of the pain from that move. There still is no long-term plan for the organization in the post-Ben Roethlisberger era.
