With the 2025 NFL Draft now in the books, teams around the league will now continue adding to their rosters to fill their remaining holes. The Pittsburgh Steelers were one of the first teams to do that on Monday afternoon. After not drafting a wide receiver over the weekend, Pittsburgh found a veteran pass-catcher to round out their depth chart.

The news came down Monday afternoon from NFL insider Ian Rapoport: the Steelers are bringing in a new veteran voice to their offense, signing wide receiver Robert Woods to a one-year, $2 million deal. With the quarterback situation still unsettled, Pittsburgh adds a steady hand — a player known for doing the little things right and commanding respect in any locker room he enters. Whoever ends up starting at quarterback will have a trusted, savvy target to lean on.

For Woods, landing in Pittsburgh feels like the perfect match. The former Houston Texans wideout isn’t just anywhere to fill a roster spot — he’s there to set a tone. With polished route-running, toughness, and a reputation for leadership, Woods could quietly become one of the Steelers’ most important offseason additions by the time the 2025 season kicks into gear.

It might not be a flashy signing, but it’s exactly the kind of move that brings real value to the Steelers’ wide receiver room. Woods has been a steady professional since entering the NFL as the 41st overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. While he has never been selected to a Pro Bowl or named to an All-Pro team, Woods has consistently been a core presence in every receiving group he’s been part of.

His game is built on reliability, toughness, and doing all the small things the right way — traits that often don't show up in highlight reels but are invaluable over the course of a season. Woods is the type of player who can be leaned on to set the tone for a young group, leading by example both on and off the field. That kind of veteran presence is something the Steelers have long prioritized in building their roster, especially in position rooms that need stability and leadership.

Steelers Get Great Price On Veteran Wide Receiver Robert Woods

This season, Pittsburgh adds that steady hand on a one-year, $2 million deal — an absolute bargain for a player with Woods' experience and reputation. As the Steelers continue to shape their offense around a still-uncertain quarterback situation, having a seasoned pro like Woods could prove to be a critical piece of the puzzle.

The Steelers wide receiver room became virtually elite overnight whenever they pulled off a big time trade to land star wide receiver DK Metcalf. Pittsburgh had been looking to improve their wide receiver room and find the riught compliemnt to star wide out George Pickens. They feel like Metcalf and Pickens will create quite the duo.

Adding Woods gives the Steelers valuable depth and much-needed stability in a wide receiver room that features young playmakers like Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson. Woods has the versatility to line up on the outside but is also dependable working out of the slot.

His exact role in Pittsburgh remains to be seen, but with captain experience and over a decade in the NFL, he brings leadership and professionalism that should elevate the group. While Woods' most productive seasons as a receiver are behind him, he still offers plenty of value to this Steelers offense. It will be exciting to see how his role develops in 2025 as he looks to make an impact in the Steel City.
