The Pittsburgh Steelers have a highly anticipated matchup with the Green Bay Packers coming up on Sunday Night Football in Week 8 of the 2025 NFL season. This is a big game as both teams come in with four wins on the season, and the Steelers are looking to get back on track after a bad loss within the division. The other obvious headline is that Aaron Rodgers is squaring off against his former team, and he could become one of the few quarterbacks in the history of the league to beat all 32 teams as a starter.

Rodgers spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets, but he never got to play against Green Bay over that time. He has already taken down the Jets during the 2025 season, and now he will look to beat his other former team.
He is doing everything he can while preparing throughout the week, including helping out the Pittsburgh defense by giving them some inside information about the offense for the Packers. This was shared by outside linebacker Alex Highsmith during an appearance on 102.5 WDVE Friday morning.
"Yeah, he definitely knows a lot, and he spent a lot of time there, so he knows the ins and outs," Highsmith said. "He's definitely shared some valuable information with us."
The Packers' offense is not exactly the same as it was when Rodgers was last with the team during the 2022 season. Things have changed. Head Coach Matt LaFleur, who is also the offensive play-caller, has had to cater the offense to Jordan Love's skills at quarterback while also focusing more on the run after acquiring Josh Jacobs during the 2024 offseason.

While the pieces on Green Bay's offense are different, the offensive philosophy and approach are going to be eerily similar to when Rodgers was still in town. This is crucial, as the Steelers' defense is going to need all the help it can get after a completely embarrassing performance in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Rodgers has also been helping out the defense by stepping in on the scout team to make sure the group is getting a good look.

Love sat behind Rodgers for three seasons, so the veteran quarterback knows a thing or two about how the younger player goes about the game. This could help Pittsburgh's defense, but nothing is going to matter if the group cannot find a way to stop the run. Pittsburgh needs a much better defensive performance than the group got during the last game, or else there is a real chance the Steelers could fall to within one game of .500.
Steelers' Defense Needs To Put Together A Good Performance For Aaron Rodgers
As mentioned, not many quarterbacks have been able to take down all 32 teams in the NFL as a starter, and Rodgers has the rare chance to do so on Sunday night. That could add a lot of pressure for his teammates, especially on the defensive side of the football coming off of a bad performance. Love was also drafted to be Rodgers' replacement, as Green Bay selected him in the first round and then gave him three years to sit behind Rodgers. That could add some fuel to the fire for Rodgers going into this matchup, although it seems like the two have always had a good relationship.

Rodgers has been consistent in saying that there isn't any sort of revenge narrative behind this matchup, but he will certainly have some sort of chip on his shoulder going into this game.
