The Pittsburgh Steelers secured a big win over the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football in Week 15 by a score of 28-15. It was a relatively complete game from the Steelers as the Black and Gold found themselves up 28-3 at one point, and the final score was not indicative of just how much of a blowout the game was. While this game had playoff indications, the bigger stories going into this contest surrounded the players that have flipped teams since the 2024 season, as both sides had alums of the other organization playing in the matchup.

One of those players that has changed teams since the 2024 season is safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. Pittsburgh traded him to the Dolphins during the 2025 offseason in a deal that brought the Steelers Jalen Ramsey. There was draft capital involved in the deal as well, and tight end Jonnu Smith also came to Pittsburgh with Ramsey. The move was questionable at the time as Fitzpatrick was a fan-favorite at one point in Pittsburgh, but his play had declined in recent years.
Defensive captain Cam Heyward spoke about Fitzpatrick during his postgame press conference when he was asked about going out on the field to support the safety while he was down with an injury, and he shared that he wished Fitzpatrick was still in Pittsburgh.
"This game, I've played with a lot of great players," Heyward said. "Minkah is one of them. He's a great friend of mine. A couple of us were in treatment last night and we FaceTimed Minkah just to see how he was. You knew he was going to be quiet going up to the game, but you knew this game was going to mean a lot to him. That's my brother, I'm always going to be checking in on him. I wish he was here. Mink's always been a guy I want to roll with."
Fitzpatrick was fairly quiet leading up to this game, even though it probably meant a lot to him to take on his former team. He spoke with the media during the week and he downplayed the idea that this game meant anything more than usual, but Heyward knows the matchup meant a lot to him. The safety had a rough night, and he went down on the field with an injury in the second half.

Heyward and many of Fitzpatrick's former teammates came out on the field in support of the safety while he was down on the field. Even Head Coach Mike Tomlin walked out to check on his former player. The injury to Fitzpatrick was classified as a calf injury, but the broadcast did show him jogging on the sidelines after walking off of the field.
Fitzpatrick could not get the win in his return to Pittsburgh, and he is in a rough spot as the Dolphins seem to be moving backwards as an organization. The offense is streaky while committing a ton of financial resources to the quarterback, which is always a difficult place to be in as a franchise.

Steelers' Former Safety Had Rough Night Taking On Pittsburgh
Fitzpatrick finished the game with a tackle for a loss and six total tackles. He unfortunately found himself on the wrong end of a highlight as well as DK Metcalf caught a 28-yard touchdown in the third quarter. The wide receiver caught the ball over Fitzpatrick and then shoved him aside on his way to the end zone, and that touchdown basically put the game out of reach for Miami.
