The Pittsburgh Steelers took care of business on Monday night, defeating the Miami Dolphins 28-15 in one of the best performances, if not the best performance the Steelers have put up throughout the course of the 2025 regular season. The Steelers did what they had to do to put themselves firmly in control of the AFC North with three more weeks left to play. Overall, the win was as dominant as you can get on both sides of the ball, continuing the positive momentum as the playoff push begins in earnest.

Despite the positive momentum this win generated for the Steelers, this game didn't come without some new problems emerging. The Steelers saw linebacker Nick Herbig exit the game with a hamstring injury, all while already missing superstar linebacker TJ Watt in this game, and the team also saw left guard Isaac Seumalo exit around the middle of the matchup. The injuries to both Herbig and Seumalo are still being evaluated and both are questionable for the upcoming matchup against the Detroit Lions. However, with regards to the linebacker room, with both Watt and Herbig still nursing their respective injuries, a new option might have just become available for the Steelers.
It was recently reported that the Dolphins released veteran defensive end Matthew Judon early Wednesday morning. Judon now heads to the waiver wire, and if he goes unclaimed by any team, he will hit free agency and be able to sign with any organization he pleases.
Amid the speculation on where Judon could eventually land, whether being claimed by a team or free to sign where he wants in free agency, one option has already generated some speculation. The Steelers have been labeled an intriguing option for a team that could end up claiming Judon, primarily due to the injuries the team has at linebacker.
Might be a good Steeler. With the TJ out right now. Could see Seattle grabbing this though.

One important note is that the Steelers would be able to submit a claim for Judon prior to other potential playoff teams that would be interested in his services, so it wouldn't be an entirely unrealistic option for the Steelers to claim Judon now that he's been released by the Dolphins.

With the injuries to Herbig and Watt looming, Judon being picked up by the Steelers would not only make sense in the present to have an available player at the position, but picking up Judon would also be a good move for when Watt and Herbig return to the field. Judon could serve the Steelers well as a depth or rotational piece come playoff time, giving the Steelers even more options at linebacker should they need it.
Judon would also add another veteran presence to the locker room, something that would continue to be beneficial to the Steelers, especially after seeing the impact other veteran presence has had on the offensive side of the ball. The positives of adding Judon to the Steelers' locker room go well beyond simple depth at a position currently decimated with injuries, and putting in a claim for Judon is a move the Steelers should consider making.
Signing Judon would also be a beneficial move for the Steelers in another, more underrated way as well.
Steelers Signing Judon Would Ensure Consistency On Defense
Judon potentially coming to Pittsburgh would not only give them a solid option as a depth piece for the defense, but with the amount of injuries sustained already, Judon arriving would ensure that the Steelers have a consistent playmaker at linebacker. Judon played 13 games for the Dolphins this season, and with his release, he'd be a consistent player in terms of availability, something that would massively benefit the Steelers on defense.
