The Pittsburgh Steelers were not expected to travel to play the Detroit Lions and come away with a massive victory. Nonetheless, Mike Tomlin's group exceeded expectations and won a wild one by a score of 29-24. The strong play has somewhat gotten overshadowed by the events that occurred in the second quarter of the contest. Wide receiver DK Metcalf traveled over to where fans were sitting and got in an altercation with an individual who has allegedly caused the wideout issues in the past. It appeared as if a punch was thrown, but different angles of the situation have provided more clarity.

Immediately after the incident occurred, widespread speculation across social media led to many believing that the Steelers' top receiver may end up being suspended by the NFL. Now, not too long after Pittsburgh's big win, it has officially been reported that Metcalf will indeed miss the organization's Weeks 17 and 18 contests versus the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens. with any appeal unlikely to be ruled upon in Metcalf's favor.

This is a devastating blow for a Steelers offense that was finally getting into a groove. Cleveland has a very talented defense and the fact that the unit will not have to game plan whatsoever for Metcalf gives the Browns a big-time advantage. There are players on Pittsburgh's side that will have the opportunity to step up, but it's far from an ideal situation.

For the Ravens contest, there is a slight chance the suspension gets appealed and Metcalf is able to return for Week 18, with the suspension being changed to just one game. Regardless, the NFL has officially set a strong standard for players coming in contact with fans. This may seem extreme, but that doesn't matter at this juncture. The Steelers may not have Metcalf available until the postseason, which isn't even a certainty yet based on the division standings.
Steelers' Games Versus The Browns And Ravens May Not Matter At The End Of The Day
While Metcalf will be at home watching Pittsburgh take on Cleveland, if the Ravens lose to the Green Bay Packers on Saturday evening, the Steelers' matchup with the Browns will be null and void for the most part, as well as the Week 18 matchup versus Baltimore.

With VERY little chance of getting the 3 seed in that scenario, Pittsburgh would essentially be playing two meaningless games in Weeks 17 and 18.
Despite Metcalf's actions not being acceptable in any way, it appears as if the team he is a leader of will not end up truly feeling a negative impact of his punishment. He will certainly not be happy about the financial ramifications for himself personally, but it would be even worse if his absence led to a loss to the Browns and a Week 18 showdown with Baltimore for the division. That is still possible, but only if the Ravens beat the Packers and Pittsburgh gets upset at Cleveland in Week 17.

Do you think that the Steelers approve of the NFL's one-game suspension of Metcalf? Do you think that his upcoming appeal will lead to the punishment being changed to just one game? Let us know in the comments below!
