In the 2025 offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers went "all in" by bringing in veterans such as Darius Slay, Jalen Ramsey, DK Metcalf, and Brandin Echols. However, the most notable and arguably the most important was quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers was coming off a season where he had five wins with the New York Jets, but still had respectable numbers, with 3,897 yards passing, 28 touchdowns, and just 11 interceptions. For Rodgers, this was considered a bad season by the media. The Steelers brought in Rodgers in hopes of remaining competitive for a Super Bowl and stacking draft picks to find their franchise quarterback of the future.

Rodgers has been up and down this season. He currently sits at 3,028 yards, 23 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. While this certainly isn't Rodgers' best season, he has been the main reason for quite a few of the Steelers' wins. It's still up in the air whether Rodgers wants to return next season or if the Steelers will want to bring him back. ESPN reporter Brooke Pryor asked Rodgers about his experience in Pittsburgh so far.
"You never know how it's going to be when you get in the locker room and how the guys are going to respond to you," said Rodgers. "How Mike [Tomlin] is going to be in the meeting. All of those things have exceeded expectations."
Rodgers had been linked to the Steelers for some time. He and Head Coach Mike Tomlin's relationship seemed to have blossomed in 2021, when the Steelers played the Green Bay Packers, during which Rodgers and Tomlin appeared to have a moment of mutual respect.

It once appeared impossible for Rodgers to be a Steeler, but that eventually became reality. Rodgers, like many others, has enjoyed his time under Head Coach Mike Tomlin.

Lots of veterans love to come to Pittsburgh just to play for Tomlin. While it doesn't always work out, it seems worth it for Rodgers.
"I feel like there would be a little hole in my life without having this chapter," Rodgers explained. "So I'm thankful for this time."
Is It Worth It For The Steelers To Bring Rodgers Back?
The Steelers have been stuck in quarterback purgatory since Ben Roethlisberger retired in 2021. They have brought in notable names such as Mitch Trubisky, Justin Fields, and Russell Wilson. They even drafted Kenny Pickett 20th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, but traded him to the Philadelphia Eagles after just two seasons. They have had a new Week 1 starting quarterback for the last five seasons. So should the Steelers bring Rodgers back?
Rodgers arguably has only one legit receiver to throw to in Metcalf, but he's now suspended for the rest of the regular season. The team seemingly neglects to use tight end Pat Freiermuth. Rodgers struggled big time in the loss to the Cleveland Browns last Sunday and Metcalf's absence was evident.

With the 2026 draft class not looking great for quarterbacks, the Steelers will likely shift to another position in the first round. Wide receiver has been the team's second most significant need behind quarterback. The Steelers will likely draft a receiver in this year's draft, so if that is the case, maybe they should bring Rodgers back. The Steelers have a young, emerging offensive line, and adding another receiver for Rodgers could be all he needs to get them back into real contention.
