The Pittsburgh Steelers recently announced that Mike McCarthy would be the team's new head coach. This was a move that was seen as a surprise to many, and the fan base was not too happy with the hire. It isn't the worst move in the world as McCarthy is an offensive-minded leader that can help the Steelers on that side of the ball, and he has also historically been a pretty good decision maker when it comes to assembling his coaching staff.

Fans' attention has been turned to McCarthy and how he will assemble his coaching staff in Pittsburgh. The most important hire will probably be defensive coordinator, but it was reported on Tuesday by insider Adam Schefter that the franchise will be interviewing Lunda Wells for its open offensive coordinator position.
"Cowboys tight ends coach Lunda Wells is expected to interview this week for the Steelers' offensive coordinator job," Schefter wrote. "Wells worked under Steelers HC Mike McCarthy in Dallas for five years, and interviewed this month for the Commanders' OC job. He also is head coach for the West team in tonightβs East-West Shrine game."

McCarthy and Wells are familiar with one another after working on the same staff together for five seasons while the two were with the Dallas Cowboys. This interview shouldn't necessarily come as a surprise as it is pretty common for head coaches accepting a new job to fill their new staff with people and assistant coaches they have worked with before. This hire would be an interesting one, although it is important to note that Wells would probably not be calling plays.
Lunda Wells is incredible. Would be a massive loss for Dallas. https://t.co/hqYtF0Rsa3

Wells seems to be loved in Dallas, which would make him a good hire for Pittsburgh. The Cowboys have had a productive tight end room throughout the years that Wells has been with the team, and his experience in that regard paired with being an offensive coordinator could help Pittsburgh's tight ends take the next step.

Steelers' Mike McCarthy Typically Puts Together A Great Staff
McCarthy has not made any hires on his staff quite yet, but that should begin to change soon. The coach will be in Pittsburgh on Tuesday for his introductory press conference, and from there on out, he should be busy with meetings and interviews as he puts together a great coaching staff.
The head coach hired Kellen Moore and Dan Quinn in Dallas, and both of those assistant coaches went on to get hired as head coaches. McCarthy has a great track record when it comes to bringing quality coaches in, and Wells could be another example of that.
