The Pittsburgh Steelers have been incredibly active in free agency so far. They've already traded for wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and signed cornerback Jamel Dean, making the most of the first day to replace the holes throughout the team. Despite losing key players to other teams, the franchise is still incredibly active at making the team better, and with their latest move, they're continuing to prove this by keeping the important pieces from previous teams together. Their latest addition will continue to ensure that the team remains competitive by filling another critical role, having key depth at a major position group.

The Black and Gold needed to ensure that they weren't caught in a situation where they lost key production because of that. They've now filled this gap on the defensive side of the ball, ensuring that defensive tackle Esezi Otomewo will return for another season with the team.

Compensation has not been announced for Otomewo's new deal, but it appears that the key rotational piece will be staying in the Steel City for at least one more year. Otomewo returning will make this upcoming season his second year with the team, having played for two other franchises prior to his arrival in Pittsburgh.

Otomewo has proven himself to be a valuable rotational piece, having taken snaps in 12 games during the 2025 NFL season and performing admirably when called upon. His presence will ensure that a key force on the defensive line will be present if the current starters were to miss time on the season, no matter how much.
While the Steelers continue to add pieces in free agency, filling holes where they can and bolstering their strong position groups, there is still a lot more the Steelers can accomplish throughout free agency.
Steelers Still Have Many Questions Surrounding The Team
Even though the team has made some commendable moves throughout the day, there are plenty of questions that still need to be answered. In the short-term, keeping Otomewo around will improve the team's depth and give the starters a chance to rest on drives where needed, but what about the long-term? There is plenty of work for the Steelers to accomplish yet, and having Otomewo stick around appears to be part of a very active beginning to free agency for the Black and Gold.
