The Pittsburgh Steelers got a very respectable three years from offensive guard Isaac Seumalo. His free-agency signing back in 2023 took a lot of fans by surprise, but in a good way. The organization was investing in the trenches with an external option, and the veteran provided plenty of stability and leadership for the unit as a whole. On Monday, it was reported that he intends to accept a three-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals, making the position now a priority for General Manager Omar Khan. There are not going to be many options left moving forward if the front office doesn't act quickly.

Ever since Khan took over the top front office role back in May of 2022, there has been a clear goal of revamping the trenches and establishing toughness up front. This has worked well in some areas, but the team is still looking for consistency from the unit. Now, there is a tall task ahead that requires the organization to replace Seumalo in a market that is beginning to get thinner by the hour.

Alijah Vera-Tucker was looked at as a perfect option for the Steelers. Despite some troublesome injury history, he has the potential to be one of the game's best when healthy. In the very early hours on Tuesday morning, Adam Schefter reported that the offensive guard would be moving on from the New York Jets and setting up shop with the New England Patriots.

Vera-Tucker is still young at just 26 years of age. He played 16 games in 2021 and 15 in 2024, respectively, but only was able to suit up for a total of 12 contests combined in the 2022, 2023, and 2025 campaigns.

Most recently, he missed the entire 2025 season due to a torn triceps. He will now look to remain healthy and compete for the reigning AFC champions. This would have been a big signing for the Steelers, but up to $48 million seems steep for a player who is consistently injured. Pittsburgh will remain on the hunt in the market to try and find Seumalo's replacement, but it won't be Vera-Tucker.

There are still names out there, and it's possible that the Steelers are patiently waiting out the market. If the front office doesn't see a long-term solution that can be signed to a significant contract, Khan and co. could simply be holding out to offer one of the last options available. This would result is a lower contract than anticipated; however, it's hard to predict that currently with an insanely pricey offensive line market.

The Steelers are going to need to protect Aaron Rodgers if the veteran returns in 2026, and losing Seumalo is a very big deal, with the big man being one of the best pass-blocking guards in the entire NFL.

This will be a situation to monitor as the Steelers' front office looks to fortify an offensive front that will be crucial to the group's success in 2026 and beyond. It shouldn't come as a shock if a signing happens sooner rather than later.

Steelers Could Sneakily Love 2026 Draft Prospect

It's not all that often that interior offensive lineman get picked in the first round of any NFL Draft, but Pittsburgh may be considering such a solution. It wouldn't be the sexiest pick with the event taking place in the Steel City, but Penn State's Olaivavega Ioane is trending towards being taken within the Top 32 picks. Given Khan's history of taking offensive lineman early on, the fascinating prospect will be someone to watch if a significant free-agency signing does not occur.
