Steelers’ Asking Price For Patrick Queen Revealed As More Teams Start To Call Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers did not disappoint on Monday as the NFL's legal tampering period ramped up. General Manager Omar Khan made several key internal and external signings, while also making a big splash in the trade market, securing a deal with the Indianapolis Colts for wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. There is still work to be done, which is why it will be fascinating to see how the front office in the Steel City continues to operate as the offseason progresses. Nobody should rule out more trades, as the organization has proven in recent years that it is not afraid to make significant moves.

A lot of talk has surrounded the Steelers' offense due to the lack of consistency ever since Ben Roethlisberger retired. With the acquisitions of Pittman and Rico Dowdle, there is suddenly a little bit less worry going on for Pittsburgh fans. There still needs to be some kind of quarterback solution, both in the short and long-term; however, Khan is most definitely off to a good start.

On Monday afternoon, defensive news came to the surface about a potential deal coming to fruition regarding linebacker Patrick Queen. The Dallas Cowboys were originally reported to have serious interest, and Nick Harris of the Fort-Worth Star Telegram confirmed as much on Monday evening, going as far as to say that the Cowboys aren't the only NFC East team going after the veteran defender.

"Cowboys have been largely wiped out at LB. Been a tough day there in Dallas, no other way to put it.I’m keeping an eye on Patrick Queen at the moment," Harris wrote. "A handful of teams have called Pittsburgh about a trade here (including the Eagles). Dallas has kept a hand in that mix for this exact scenario, but there are still some things to work through and conversations behind the scenes to be had there."

It's becoming increasingly more likely that Queen gets shipped out of Pittsburgh, and Harris also reported on what Khan and co. are looking for in return. It appears as if the Steelers' brass is valuing the linebacker extremely high, which makes sense given is impressive career and consistent durability.

"Sounds like Pittsburgh is hunting down a mid-round pick. I personally think the best they can get is a fifth-rounder which would work in Dallas’ favor (can’t really give up a 4 or better). We’ll keep a pulse on it. Nothing imminent, but worth monitoring at this point."

Pittsburgh would be very light at the position if it did decide to trade Queen. That doesn't mean, however, that there isn't a plan in place behind closed doors to replace the defender if a move is indeed made. It's something to keep an eye on, with now potentially multiple teams driving up the price tag that is being asked for by Khan.

Steelers' Patrick Queen

Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen (#6) makes the signal for fourth down as the team practices during 2024 training camp at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA.

Queen is preparing to enter the final season of a three-year deal that he signed with the Steelers back in 2024. It was exciting at the time, as Pittsburgh stole him away from the Baltimore Ravens, but the relationship may have already ended its course. This is one of those situations where the former head-coaching staff may have been a little more high on the linebacker compared to the new group that has been brought into lead the franchise moving forward.

Steelers Immediately Become First-Round Linebacker Team To Watch If Queen Is Dealt

Pittsburgh truly helped fill a void in trading for Pittman. The 2026 NFL Draft class is very deep at the wide receiver position, and the front office won't be forced into taking a pass-catcher in round one come late April anymore. It still could; however, if Queen is dealt to Dallas, or someplace else, the Steelers immediately become a team to watch at pick number 21 when it comes to an interior linebacker. It will be interesting to see how this all develops and plays out.
