The Pittsburgh Steelers had a very busy Monday as the first day of the NFL’s legal tampering period got underway. The new league year is set to begin on Wednesday, but on Tuesday, it became clear where Steelers General Manager Omar Khan and new head coach Mike McCarthy could be looking. After Pittsburgh saw veteran left guard Isaac Seumalo walk in free agency, the organization must now turn its attention toward finding a replacement along the offensive line.

One possible direction was highlighted by Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo during a recent chat for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Fittipaldo pointed to a familiar name who could make sense for Pittsburgh as it looks to reinforce the interior of its line. He suggested that former AFC North rival Wyatt Teller could be a player worth keeping an eye on as the team evaluates veteran options.
Teller spent the last several seasons with the Cleveland Browns, establishing himself as one of the more physical guards in the league and earning three Pro Bowl selections during his tenure. However, Browns GM Andrew Berry clearly didn't want to keep Teller past the 2025 season as the team cut ties with him. This now gives the Steelers a great chance to get a veteran replacement on the line.
"As far as free agents go, is Wyatt Teller still available? He might be someone to watch if they don't mind compromising their comp pick formula," Fittipaldo said while speaking about where Khan will be looking next.
Adding a player with that kind of experience could help stabilize the Steelers’ offensive front while also bringing in someone very familiar with AFC North defenses. If Pittsburgh ultimately explores the possibility, it would represent an intriguing move that not only fills a major need but also adds a battle-tested presence to the offensive line.

The main thing that may stop Khan and McCarthy from wanting to do business with Teller is the compensatory pick formula. The Steelers have been known to play the comp pick game in recent years, and adding Teller could mean sacrificing a compensatory selection. That may be something the team prefers to avoid if there are other options available.
One possible alternative is Elgton Jenkins, who would not impact the compensatory pick formula in the same way. If Pittsburgh wants to add a veteran presence without losing future draft capital, exploring players in that category could make more sense for the front office. They also could look in the 2026 NFL Draft.
"If not a free agent, then roll with Spencer Anderson and draft a guard," Fittipaldo said. "Hey, guard could be in play now in Round 1. If not Round 1, then somewhere in the first four rounds. You need some competition for Anderson. You don't want to just hand him the starting job."
At the same time, Fittipaldo also believes the Steelers could ultimately look to the draft to replace Seumalo. Building through the draft has long been a priority for the organization, and selecting a young guard would allow the team to address the position while continuing to develop the offensive line for the future.
Steelers' Offensive Line Is In Great Hands
The Steelers hiring McCarthy as their next head coach means the offensive line should be in great hands. McCarthy consistently had a dominant offensive line during his time with the Dallas Cowboys, and he understands how important strong line play is to winning games in the NFL. He also added James Campen to be his offensive line coach, which is seen as a great move.

The Steelers have also had some good fortune finding reliable offensive linemen through the draft in recent years, and they may look to do that once again in the 2026 NFL Draft, which is set to be hosted in the Steel City of Pittsburgh. Adding a young player could help reinforce the interior of the line while continuing the team’s focus on building through the draft.
Pittsburgh may also want to bring in competition for Spencer Anderson. Creating more depth and pushing younger players to earn their roles could help the offensive line take another step forward heading into the upcoming season.
