The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to look like a much different organization now that Mike Tomlin is no longer at the helm. After the Steelers failed to end their playoff win drought during the 2025 season, Tomlin decided it was time to walk away from the game after 19 seasons leading the franchise. His departure marked the end of one of the most stable eras in the NFL, as Tomlin had been a constant presence on the sidelines in Pittsburgh since 2007.

Now, Mike McCarthy is the head coach in the Steel City, and he is eager to come in and turn things around. The Steelers have not been legitimate contenders for quite some time, and McCarthy is hungry to change that narrative. Known for his offensive background and his previous success as a Super Bowl-winning head coach, McCarthy brings a different approach and a new voice to a franchise that had grown accustomed to Tomlin’s leadership style.
With Tomlin gone, there are a lot of questions that need to be answered about the future of the organization. One of the more interesting questions, however, has nothing to do with the roster or the playbook. Instead, it revolves around one of the longest-running traditions in franchise history: training camp in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Interestingly enough, it appears that the answer to that question may have already been revealed, and not by McCarthy himself.
While appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, 2025 Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers may have unintentionally leaked the team’s plans for training camp. During the conversation, Rodgers referenced the upcoming summer and spoke about McCarthy preparing for camp in Latrobe, seemingly confirming that the team will once again return to Saint Vincent College.
"So many fans show up in Latrobe, and it’s just awesome," Rodgers said while speaking on The Pat McAfee Show. "It's such team bonding stuff. Because there's nothing to do. You're staying in old school dorms. I know Mr. Rooney has put a lot of money into that school, but DK [Metcalf] and I were sharing a bathroom and sharing a shower. We had a good time. So much great team bonding happened in Latrobe, and I know Mike [McCarthy] is excited for that. It's a hearken back to when we could go to St. Norbert's across town in Green Bay for so many years and just had a blast."
For decades, the Steelers have held their annual training camp at Saint Vincent College. Generations of fans have traveled to Latrobe every summer to watch practices, meet players, and get an early look at the team before the regular season begins.

In 2025, the Steelers made it their 58th consecutive year holding training camp in Latrobe. However, with a new head coach in town, many people wondered whether McCarthy would continue that tradition or decide to take the team in a different direction. Around the league, it has become more common for teams to hold training camp at their primary practice facilities instead of traveling to smaller college campuses.
Steelers Don't Seem To Be Changing Training Camp Plans Under New Regime
Because of that trend, some Steelers fans were curious whether McCarthy might prefer to keep the team in Pittsburgh during the summer rather than making the annual trip to Latrobe. Changing the location would mark a significant shift for the franchise and would likely be met with strong reactions from the fan base that has embraced the tradition for decades.

The jury is still out on whether Rodgers will even play for the Steelers in the 2026 season. However, him dropping hints about McCarthy and Latrobe is certainly something Steelers fans noticed. His entire conversation with Pat McAfee was interesting, as it gave Steelers fans a look inside Rodgers’ mind while he ponders his future decisions.
