The Pittsburgh Steelers made a big time trade with the Indianapolis Colts to land wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. Pittman comes to the Steelers fulfilling a major need and immediately helping upgrade their wide receiver room. Even with the addition, the group is still a little thin beyond Pittman and fellow receiver DK Metcalf. Still, the move has given the Steelers fan base reason to feel much better about the direction of the passing attack heading into the season.

Pittman was introduced to the team on Friday after touching down in the Steel City, where he met with local media and began getting acquainted with his new organization. Naturally, one of the first topics that came up was the uncertain quarterback situation he is stepping into. At the moment, no one truly knows whether veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers will end up playing for Pittsburgh in 2026.
That uncertainty has been one of the biggest storylines surrounding the team this offseason. Rodgers has been connected to returning to Pittsburgh in speculation, but nothing official has materialized. Pittman, however, made it clear that he is comfortable no matter how the situation ultimately unfolds.
"Absolutely, I mean whenever you get a chance to play with a Hall of Fame quarterback, you always take that," Pittman said. "I know Aaron previous to that. I haven't reached out to him yet and I know he is still thinking about it, but we also have two really good quarterbacks here in Mason [Rudolph] and Will [Howard]. Whatever ends up turning out, I think we will have a really good plan offensively and we will make the most out of it."
If Rodgers does end up joining the Steelers, Pittman would obviously welcome the chance to catch passes from one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in NFL history. Rodgers’ experience and accuracy could elevate the entire offense once again and make Pittsburgh’s passing game far more dangerous. However, after having Rodgers for the 2025 season, many Steelers fans believe it's best to go in a younger direction as Rodgers will be 43 years old during the 2026 season.

At the same time, Pittman also expressed confidence in the quarterbacks currently on the roster. He said he would feel comfortable working with second-year QB Will Howard as well as veteran Mason Rudolph. Both quarterbacks represent different possibilities for the offense, but Pittman emphasized that his focus is simply on doing his job and helping the team succeed.
For now, the Steelers have strengthened a key position, and Pittman’s arrival has already created optimism about what the offense could look like moving forward. If the quarterback situation settles in Pittsburgh’s favor, this trade could end up looking even better.
Steelers Wide Receiver Room Is Still Thin, But Looking Better With Michael Pittman Jr.
Even with the addition of Pittman alongside Metcalf, the Steelers still have questions about their overall depth at wide receiver. The room took a hit after Calvin Austin III walked away in free agency, leaving the team with fewer proven options behind their two top targets.
Right now, Pittman and Metcalf form a strong one-two punch that should immediately improve the offense, but the drop off after them is noticeable. Because of that, many expect Pittsburgh to address the position early in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Adding another young receiver would help balance the depth chart and give the offense another weapon. For now, the unit looks improved, but more help is likely still on the way.
