The Pittsburgh Steelers are entering a new era with Head Coach Mike McCarthy now at the helm. The veteran coach brings along almost an entirely new staff and has flipped the culture of the team. With McCarthy being offensive-minded, this is the type of coach that Pittsburgh hasn't seen in decades. After a disappointing end to a 2025 season that saw the Steelers win the division, getting the Black and Gold back to winning playoff games is seemingly the goal. With McCarthy's familiar quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, under center for one final run, Pittsburgh is priming itself for a competitive year.

Rodgers, who showed some flashes of his former self at times in 2025, will have a much better supporting cast of weapons in 2026. With the Steelers brass making some key upgrades in the receiver room, it's clear the team wants to ensure the 42-year-old has some help. With the young offensive line showing signs of continued improvement and a tandem of great running backs, the roster is set up for McCarthy's offensive attack.
While Rodgers wasn't a top-10 quarterback in 2025, he was efficient enough to lead a playoff team. As always, he limited interceptions and was a commander at the line. Rodgers, the four-time MVP, knows McCarthy's system. He'll lead an offense that he had once thrived in, and with the aforementioned supporting cast, there's no doubt he could have better numbers than the year prior. Steelers beat writer Christopher Carter believes that he can be a top quarterback in all of football. He discussed this on the Locked On Steelers podcast.
"Can he be better? Absolutely. He can be very good. I think Aaron Rodgers, on efficiency numbers, if things go well around him and guys stay healthy and he stays healthy, he can put himself in the range of a top-10 quarterback," Carter said.
Rodgers has proven to be one of the most efficient signal-callers throughout his career. His interception rate(1.4%) is the greatest in NFL history, and for a guy with 527 career passing touchdowns, that mark is even more impressive.

Last year, that rate came out to be that same 1.4%, and that is huge for an offense that is looking to be much better in 2026. While Rodgers lacks the same backyard-football "escapability" that he once had, he got the ball out quickly. With a better group of pass catchers and an offensive line that is taking steps, he can find himself extending plays at a higher clip. McCarthy knows Rodgers and will put him in a situation that will play to his strengths.
The Steelers Are Building An Offense For The Present And Future
Though many were not fans of Rodgers taking his time in deciding how the rest of his career would play out, his return will be a good thing for a team that is looking to make a playoff run. The roster is constructed in an interesting way, with several young players waiting their turn and some key veterans manning spots. Nothing illustrates this more than the quarterback room. With Rodgers already embracing the mentorship role, the Steelers will have almost another coach in Rodgers, preparing their young gunslingers.

With young quarterbacks Drew Allar and Will Howard awaiting their time to shine, Rodgers will have plenty to share with them, especially being in an offense that he played in for years. This is a great thing, and by the looks of it, Howard and Allar have become sponges to Rodgers' advice. The outlook for the quarterback room is positive with two options for 2027, plenty of weapons, and one more year to learn from Rodgers.
