Actively Predicting the Inactive List: Week 17

So after two injury free weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers got the most untimely injuries during their game against the New York Jets. Mason Rudolph was redeemed after replacing Devlin "Duck" Hodges following his 2 interceptions, only to leave the game with a shoulder separation that would end up placing him on injured reserve.

James Conner again had an injury. This time to his quadricep. Though the MRI was negative, he didn’t practice all week and is ruled out for this weekend’s match-up against the Baltimore Ravens. Joining him as being ruled out of this week’s action is Maurkice Pouncey with a knee injury. I fear it may be an ACL, but we’ll have to wait and see if it requires surgery.

Joe Haden again didn’t practice on Thursday, though he practiced fully on Wednesday. Fortunately, his foot injury ended up being minor and was given a vet day off to get ready for the game this Sunday. Steven Nelson also missed a day of practice this week with a groin. Since they have not been given injury designations, I expect them both to play this Sunday.

I track and try to predict timelines for Steeler players returning to the field. This is a link to our current spreadsheet. It will update on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday after the practice reports are issued, as well as Post-Game and Tuesday after Coach Tomlin's press conferences. I believe the inactive players will be:

  1. James Conner: Ruled out and will not play
  2. Maurkice Pouncey: Ruled out and will not play
  3. Chukwuma Okorafor: The Steelers will rest Chukes with a healthy 0-line
  4. Tuzar Skipper: He’s been inactive since he rejoined the team
  5. Artie Burns: The Steelers like Justin Layne for special teams. It looks like Artie will be inactive until there is an injury to one of the starting edge corners.
  6. Zach Gentry: With two healthy tight ends ahead of him, he shouldn’t play
  7. Amara Darboh: His inexperience should lend him to being inactive this week as well
