"Defense is Designed to Lose" - LB Vince Williams

NFL players take to Twitter to drop some knowledge on people who might be questioning their reasoning (on whatever topic it may be). We’ve seen this with plenty of Pittsburgh Steelers players, past and present. But when Steelers’ linebacker Vince Williams puts out a tweet, it’s usually a good one. Saturday, Williams dropped his opinions via Twitter about the “natural jerks” of the NFL that break the formula.

...And yes, he’s talking about the defense. Have a look:

It’s easy to score points in the NFL. The game is made to score. That’s why defense is the ultimate troll move. Most defensive players are natural jerks. We love seeing things not go as planned.

The “not go as planned” part of the tweet is very well talking about turnover ratios in the game. They’re a huge advantage if you’re team can create them.

That’s when things don’t go as planned.

But last season, the Steelers weren’t close to being one of those teams. They were among the worst in turnover differential in the 2018 season. Pittsburgh only created 15 turnovers and finished 29th in the league.

The Steelers overall turnover differential was -11.

There’s no doubt that the defense wants to be back to where they were years ago when they thrived off of the creation of turnovers.

These off-season additions to Pittsburgh’s defense could help the defense make a powerful statement against offenses all over the NFL.
