QB Depth Chart Preseason Week 3: Will the Steelers cut Mason Rudolph?

Only two quarterbacks played against the Green Bay Packers, and both threw a pick 6 on their very first throws. Not the way you want to start your day, but at least both quarterbacks had a chance to lead the offense to multiple touchdowns after their mistakes.

The players:

1) Ben Roethlisberger - will get his first game action this week. I’m excited to see how he does against Dick Lebeau’s defense in this game.

2) Landry Jones - should get some playing time as well. It looks like the #2 job is secure since he didn’t have to play at all last week.

3) Josh Dobbs - threw a pick 6 on his first throw, but recovered nicely to lead the Steelers to 3 TDs. Two of them being highlight catches by James Washington. I think with his performance, Dobbs has earned the #3 spot outright.

4) Mason Rudolph - had a game to forget. His first throw was also a pick 6, and he also had some nice plays, the biggest being the catch and run by JuJu Smith-Schuster for a touchdown. There was also another TD drive that highlighted James Connor’s running ability. Mason also fumbled in 2 straight games. This is something he really needs to correct. Mason really has to perform well this week to try and take the #3 spot back from Dobbs.

Since Rudolph has dropped in the depth chart, will the Steelers actually cut him or look to move Dobbs to another team before cut down day (as they did with Sammie Coates last season)? It looks like all of the quarterbacks will get some playing time in this game. Hopefully we can see them all build on some positive play, and not start off with pick sixes!
