The Steelers added lineman Jarron Jones to their roster when the XFL fizzled out earlier in the year. He was later signed to the practice squad after failing to make the 53 man roster. He likely won't be on the team very much longer.
The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported Saturday that Jones was arrested early Saturday morning on several charges including aggravated assault, strangulation (both felonies) and simple assault.
The woman was identified as Jones' girlfriend that filed the complaint. When police arrived on the scene they found a woman leaving Jones apartment and she described how Jones strangled her, broke an XBox controller over her face and then threw her outside.
The Post Gazette was able to reach Steelers GM Kevin Colbert who offered this response.
โWe are aware of the situation regarding Jarron Jones. We are gathering all of the details of these disturbing allegations, but we will not comment any further at this time.โ
The woman involved was transported to a nearby hospital where she is in stable condition. Jones has a hearing scheduled for Nov 24 at 1:15.
