The Pittsburgh Steelers had voluntary organized team activities this week. One of the big stories was the absence of defensive lineman Stephon Tuitt. And the other concern amongst the fan base was that #1 wide receiver Diontae Johnson didn't attend either.
Today in a story from The Athletic by Mark Kaboly it was written that Johnson was trying to send a message to the organization that he's unhappy with his current contract situation. Johnson has one year remaining on his rookie contract and it's been reported that he would like a new contact.
Johnson is unhappy with his current contract situation and trying to send a message through his lack of attendance. He is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and he knows if an extension isn’t agreed upon by the Sept. 11 opener, he will likely play the season without any security of a long-term deal as he heads into free agency. --Kaboly wrote
The story didn't get a lot of hype until tonight when Bleacher Report sent out a mass notification on their app to users stating that Johnson was "unhappy" with his contract situation. The news must've finally got around to Johnson tonight who made a post on Twitter seemingly disputing the claim.

Earlier this week Chase Claypool was asked about the absence of Johnson.
"I know Diontae, he's grinding no matter where he is," wide receiver Chase Claypool said. "I know a lot of people are looking into it, but I wouldn't look into it too much. He's perfecting his craft and he's going to come ready."
Coach Mike Tomlin stressed that this week's activities were voluntary and downplayed the absence of any players. When the Steelers begin mandatory mini camp they aren't expected to have anyone absent. Should a player skip the three days of practice they'll fined over 88k by the team. In the past teams used to be able to waive fines for missed practice, but under the new CBA they're forced to give out the penalties.
