The Pittsburgh Steelers will have a new starting quarterback under center in the 2022 season. Right now, the favorite to land the job is veteran free agent signee, QB Mitch Trubiskyeven though the Steelers selected "Hometown Hero," QB Kenny Pickett in the 1st round of 2022 NFL Draft.

On Friday, NFL Network's morning show, Good Morning Football (GMFB) did a segment in which they discussed questions of the AFC North and checklists for each team to be successful in the upcoming season. Former NFL cornerback, Darius Butler discussed the Steelers' checklist.

"Name Mitch Trubisky the starter day one going to training camp," Butler said on the show. "We don't need another quarterback competition. Quarterback chat. We know who the guy is, name him. He was drafted number two overall a few years ago for a reason. He has talent!"

"It didn't work out there [Chicago], but this is the second time around he'll bounce back. When I think Steelers, I think stability, head coach position, obviously ownership and the quarterback. Obviously, you had Terry Bradshaw back in the day. You had Big Ben [Roethlisberger] who won Super Bowls. Put Mitch in a great position to thrive!"

This isn't the first time Butler has went to bat for Trubisky and the Steelers. Butler did a fun segment a couple of days ago in which the crew did a "Blind Take" test on GMFB.

Mitch Trubisky is a dark horse MVP candidate

“Of course, why wouldn’t he be? The Steel City, I don’t even know what the stadium is going to be named. Big Ben’s out of there. I mean, he’s going to live up to being the number one pick. All of the Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. Blah, blah, blah. Mitch Trubisky steps up, Mike Tomlin, he never loses, never has a losing season. He’s going to put him in a great position. He’s going to keep the rookie on the bench. MVP is next, it’s only right!”

It's his job to lose right now, according to every report that we've sen thus far. Even Steelers DL Cam Heyward has said, “I think it starts with Mitch," when discussing the quarterback competition.

“I think it starts with Mitch,” Heyward said via Not Just Football. “I think the thing that we have to remember about Mitch is, he’s coming from a situation [in Chicago] where they didn’t really give him anything. And he still made it to the playoffs. Mitch does a lot of things right. I think we have a better team around him, and we’re going to support him. Right now, he’s our No. 1.”

We don't know the Steelers' plan at the quarterback position, yet, but Butler is right, we know who the guy is as of right now. However, I'm not sure if the team will throw out the quarterback competition that quickly. Pickett may surprise us and take over the QB1 spot before the season starts. Only time will tell.
