Amidst this intriguing, yet, exciting time into a new era for the Pittsburgh Steelers is every sports media company making predictions about the team's current quarterback situation. The Steelers QB battle is headlining articles on many sites!

The quarterback competition isn't fully underway right now, that won't happen until the start of training camp in Latrobe on July 26th, but offensive coordinator, Matt Canada, has given us a little bit about the pecking order that happened in Organized Team Activities (OTAs) and minicamp:

“I think Coach [Mike Tomlin] has been very clear that Mitch [Trubisky] is No. 1, working with the ones and doing a really good job with that. Mason [Rudolph] is No. 2, and Kenny [Pickett] is No. 3 and we are working that way based on experience, based on résumé.”

Obviously, things could change, once training camp and the preseason gets underway, but right now it seems the Steelers QB1 to start the 2022 season is going to be Trubisky. Trubisky is looking for a chance to redeem himself and revitalize his career in the black and gold after a slow start with the Chicago Bears and spending a year as a backup with the Buffalo Bills.

Here's what Rill had to say about the Steelers' current QB competition:

"It's been a long time since the Steelers have had a quarterback battle during training camp after 18 years with Ben Roethlisberger in position. However, Pittsburgh now needs to decide on a new starting signal-caller.

There are three options. Mason Rudolph is the lone returning QB, but he may be the least likely to win the job. There's also Kenny Pickett, the rookie who was selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft out of Pittsburgh. And there's Mitchell Trubisky, who signed during free agency while looking for an opportunity to again be an NFL starter."

"Pickett has a chance to be the Steelers' Week 1 starting quarterback, but the prediction here is that it will be Trubisky. It won't be a long-term solution, though, and the 24-year-old rookie will start some games before the 2022 season is over."

Under the commentary, Rill made his prediction for Trubisky:

"While Trubisky will start early, he won't make enough of an impact to fend off Pickett and keep the job. It won't be a terrible showing, but Pittsburgh will decide midseason that it's time to turn to the first-round pick."

"Prediction: Trubisky will be replaced midseason after throwing less than 10 TD passes."

Trubisky is doing the best he can to come in and lead this team. He may struggle, but the team is giving him a chance to win the QB1 job and I think he may come out of this thing with that title, at least to start the season! The Steelers free agent QB addition received some praise from QBs Coach Mike Sullivan during Organized Team Activities (OTAs) and minicamp this spring:

"I mean he’s just a likable young man. And he just has a very pleasant demeanor; he’ll also bust your chops. You know, he’s got a sense of humor and I think he has a way of just trying to connect with all of his teammates. He’s come in with confidence, but also with humility and I think that’s something that you know, his teammates see him putting in the time. And of course, you know, his experience, he took his team to the playoffs two years there in Chicago."

The Steelers could find themselves in a great position if Trubisky comes into 2022 and plays well. If that's the case, the team needs to keep him on the field as long as they are winning games and making a playoff push! However, if he struggles as Bleacher Report predicts, it should be time to see Pickett take over!
