Steelers Legend Ben Roethlisberger Absolutely Feels He Should Have Been "More Clear" with his "Me-1st" Players Comments

The Pittsburgh Steelers arrived in Latrobe on Tuesday and the team got their first practice under their belts on Wednesday. However, for a long-time Steelers' quarterback, it was the first time in 18 years, Ben Roethlisberger was able to stay home. Roethlisberger retired at the end of last season and is embracing retirement the way that most people do, spending time with family and friends. However, he did an interview last week that sparked some some controversy.

In a recent article published by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette last Friday, Roethlisberger recently spoke with Ron Cook about many topics including a culture change that has happened within the organization and the NFL as a whole.

Steelers' team captain and superstar DL Cam Heyward was open about how he felt about the comments made by his former QB1 and fellow team captain. Heyward took exception to the comments on his Not Just Football with Cam Heyward podcast.

“It looks as though we are looked at as selfish players, and I don’t think that’s the point,” the veteran defensive lineman said on his “Not Just Football with Cam Heyward” podcast. “We have a lot of young players that come from different backgrounds, have experienced different things from what others or I may have experienced. That doesn’t make them selfish or more of a me-type attitude. … There are a lot more team-first guys than me-type attitude. I took offense to that.”

On Thursday, Roethlisberger joined Randy Baumann and the 'DVE Morning Show to set the record straight and clarify his "Me-First" players comments.

"I probably should've been more detailed, more specific. It's not the majority of guys are that way ... Cam and I have sat down many times in the last couple years and had the same conversations."

"I get Cam supporting his teammates," Roethlisberger stated on the show. "I wasn't trying to bash anyone specifically, I was just making a broad-stroke comment... I agree with him and I should've been more clear. The majority of guys on that team are team-first guys."

Roethlisberger seems to backtrack a little bit, because he seems aware of why Heyward would feel the way that he felt. Heyward was just protecting his teammates and Roethlisberger understands that.
