Steelers Bring Back 2022 Training Camp Standout On A 1-Year Deal

Some Pittsburgh Steelers fans may have forgotten about wide receiver, Anthony Miller. The veteran speedster performed quite well in training camp and was expected to have a decent role with the offense this season, particularly as rookie Calvin Austin III got his feet under him. Well, things didn't go according to plan for either wide out, and it wasn't because of poor performance.

Miller suffered a shoulder injury before the first preseason game, forcing him to miss the whole 2022 season. Of course, Austin didn't see the field once either with an ongoing foot injury. On Tuesday, the team announced that they have re-signed Miller to a one-year deal.

Heading into next season, there is some uncertainty in the wide receiver room. Beyond the top two options, George Pickens and Diontae Johnson, there aren't many proven guys. Austin should be back fully healthy, but we have yet to see what he can do on an NFL field. That makes the signing of Miller underrated, one that was necessary by general manager, Omar Khan.

While Khan can certainly still go address the position in the 2023 NFL Draft or even free agency, Miller provides a nice insurance plan. He gives the team depth at a position that was much-needed. As for the specifics on the contract, it's likely a low amount of money comparatively. Miller has been a journeyman in his NFL career, previously playing for the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans.

It'll be interesting to see the competition between Miller and Austin shake out in Latrobe. It seems they will be competing for the No. 3 wide out spot, likely featuring in the slot with Johnson and Pickens on the outside. In 50 career games, Miller has 140 catches for 1,589 yards and 12 touchdowns.

What are your thoughts on this re-signing of Miller? What are your expectations for his 2023 season? Can they trust Miller to be the No. 3 WR if Austin doesn't live up to expectations? Share your thoughts in the comment section below, as well as on our social media sites!
