Steelers Sign UDFA RB Max Borghi, Waive/Injured Camp Standout Master Teague III In Latest 2022 Roster Shuffle

The Pittsburgh Steelers have dealt with several injuries in training camp to guys throughout the roster. Master Teague III was a beneficiary of one of those injuries, as he was picked up shortly after Jeremy McNichols got injured just a few days into his tenure with the team. Teague made his mark on the team in his few weeks, perhaps earning a shot at the practice squad. Then, he was carted off at practice on Tuesday with an ankle injury.

As a result, he has been waived due to injury just like McNichols was a few weeks back. The team signed yet another rookie undrafted free agent in running back Max Borghi out of Washington State. In four years in the Pac-12, Borghi accumulated 3,292 scrimmage yards and 41 total touchdowns across 39 games. While he had a successful career, he went undrafted in the 2022 NFL Draft, and his small stature had a lot to do with that.

It should be noted that the Steelers have had interest in Borghi in the past, so this comes as no surprise. Earlier in the off-season, the Indianapolis Colts cut him to make room for former Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay. Just a few weeks ago, Borghi opted to sign with the Denver Broncos over the Steelers. After the Broncos cut him earlier in the week to get the roster to 85 players, he became a free agent. With the injury to Teague, the two sides reconvened and reached a deal.

With training camp coming to an end this week and just two preseason games remaining, it'll be very difficult for Borghi to work his way through the ranks. Rookie Jaylen Warren has been the talk of camp, as he vies to make the 53-man roster. Another rookie, Mataeo Durant, has shown flashes at times, but he struggled in the preseason opener. Durant, and even Borghi, could possibly end up on the practice squad. For the next few weeks, that will likely be the main goal for Borghi, as he looks to try and find a permament home with it already being his third NFL team.
