Rewind to Pittsburgh Steelers training camp in Latrobe for a second. Head coach Mike Tomlin was searching for a new backup running back, as the likes of Benny Snell Jr. and Anthony McFarland Jr. simply weren’t cutting it anymore. As a result, two undrafted rookies stepped up as the standouts of training camp. One of them was Jaylen Warren, the Oklahoma State product who ended up making the 53-man roster.

Warren not only made the roster, but has since become the team’s primary backup behind Najee Harris. He’s had a decent role in the offense in his rookie season, spelling Harris quite often. As for the other guy that broke out in camp, well he got hurt. That would be Master Teague, the physical back out of Ohio State. Teague displayed that power on several occasions, establishing himself as a rookie in camp.
He suffered an ankle injury that forced him to be carted off at practice. As a result, he was waived shortly after. Now, he’s healthy and recovered. The Steelers have signed Teague to their practice squad for now. In a corresponding move, defensive lineman Rexell Wren was released from the team's 16-man practice squad. Along with Teague, wide receiver Ja'Marcus Bradley was also added to the practice squad.

At the moment, this isn’t a big deal. Although, with Warren’s status in doubt for Monday Night Football, perhaps Teague could be promoted to the active roster against the Indianapolis Colts. This move could be one that’s significant for next year’s training camp, as Teague could possibly establish himself as the third running back behind Harris and Warren.

Snell has been kept around due to his abilities on special teams, but his days in Pittsburgh seem to be numbered. McFarland remains on the practice squad so in the case that Warren is inactive, he may be above Teague in the pecking order. Jason Huntley is also still around, meaning there are now three running backs on the practice squad.
Do you think Teague will get any chance to eventually be on the 53-man roster? Should the coaches give him another look in Latrobe next year? What have been your thoughts on Warren's play in his rookie season? Share your thoughts in the comment section below, yinz!
