Steelers QB1 Mitch Trubisky Opens Up About Going Against 'Blitzburgh' Thus Far: "It's iron on iron."

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback battle has been the talk of the town thus far in the 2022 training camp. Veteran free agent signee, QB Mitch Trubisky looks to fend off the incumbent QB Mason Rudolph and rookie first rounder, Kenny Pickett. The Steelers are only in the second week of training camp in Latrobe, but it's been Trubisky getting most of the first team reps for the team thus far. Trubisky struggled to get the offense into the end zone at the end of the first week, but bounced back in a two-minute drill on Wednesday.

These quarterbacks that are battling it out to be the Steelers' Week 1 starter could absolutely have a rough time against the team's impressive defense with play-makers like TJ Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Cam Heyward leading the way. The Steelers defense has the potential to be one of the best in the league in the 2022 season. Of course, it's going to be difficult to look good going against what's expected to be a top defense in the NFL. Trubisky knows he'll be a better quarterback because of the competition with the team's defense!

In an interview with Pat Kirwan, Jim Miller, and Paul Alexander on SiriusXM's radio show "Movin' the Chains," Trubisky talked about his experience going against that impressive defense each day in training camp.

"They definitely have the nickname 'Blitzburgh' for a reason," Trubisky stated on Movin' the Chains. "It's a challenge every day, but it's a good challenge for us. It's great for me and the o-line and the guys to be on the same page, whether it's going through hots, changing protection, knowing where it's coming from and just getting the ball out on time. So, it's definitely a great challenge every day. There's no better defense to go against than ours; it's iron on iron. And we're just trying to sharpen it and continue to get better."

"Iron on Iron." Where have I heard that before? It's one of Steelers head coach, Mike Tomlin's favorite phrases or "Tomlinisms." Trubisky absolutely isn't the only player from the roster to use the term in some fashion during this year's training camp.

Everyone on offense should be up to the challenge of facing stifling NFL defenses week in and week out in 2022, since they have to go up against one of the NFL's best at practice each day -- especially, during this time of year, when practice competition is heightened. Watt is the reigning NFL's Defensive Player of the Year and he doesn't care if the Steelers are in the middle of a QB battle or not; he's going to wreak havoc when any offense is lined up in front of him.

Whoever wins the starting role at the QB1 position will have earned it honestly going against this Steelers defense each day, that's for sure!
