For every game played, you have players that stand out, both for good and bad things. We're going to look at those players, both winners and losers each week, and highlight or throw them under the bus.
Winners
First-Team Offense
The first drive faltered, but they came out on the second drive, marched down the field, and scored a touchdown. Great pass from Ben Roethlisberger to JuJu Smith-Schuster, something we should get used to seeing again this year. Offensive line excelled and gave Ben all the time in the world to throw.
First-Team Defense
Three points in the first half. That wins you most games. They spent the first half terrorizing quarterbacks, scored a safety, and forced a fumble that they couldn't recover. Regardless. You hold a team to three points in one half, you have a really good chance at winning.
Starting Defensive Line
Four sacks and a safety split between Stephon Tuitt and Cameron Heyward? You can't ask for much more when it comes to the dress rehearsal for your defense. Would love to see Tuitt step up his pass rushing more, and this is a good start to that.
Kam Kelly
Man did Kam Kelly come out of nowhere. Made a couple big tackles, and forced a fumble that wasn't recovered. He's working well towards earning a roster spot, and potentially the spot as that 3rd safety. Next week should be a big test for Kam Kelly.
Terrell Edmunds
I was high on Edmunds last year. I really loved the growth he showed week to week as a rookie. Now we're seeing an even bigger jump coming into his second season. He's flying all over the field, starting to remind me of another guy who played safety for the Steelers, and did it very well.
Losers
Anthony Chickillo
It wasn't anything he did or didn't do. But with Tuzar Skipper playing the way he has been, and Ola Adeniyi almost a guaranteed lock, Chickillo could be on the outside looking in right now.
Josh Dobbs
Aside from one big play, Dobbs didn't look great tonight. Mason Rudolph absolutely outshined him aside from an interception on miscommunication. Otherwise, his poise and throwing ability were on display, and is looking good in the fight for the backup quarterback spot.
