Steelers wide receiver Sammie Coates injured his knee while training during the off-season according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Coates had his knee scoped last week and could miss several weeks.
The Steelers may elect to place Coates on the physically unable to perform list. That would clear a roster spot so they could get a look at another player. Coates could be activated at any time from PUP.
This is a bad break for Coates who has plenty of competition for his roster spot. The wide receiver room is jam packed and a slow start could open the door for free agent signee Justin Hunter to make the roster.
