The Steelers Should Look Into Making These 3 Surprising And Exciting Roster Moves This Week

As Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers have begun to cut down to 53 players. There haven't been a lot of surprises up to this point, but the team still needs to clear 4 more spots prior to 4pm. Many positions have question marks and the team will need to make a few moves following the 4pm cut down to help fill those holes.

These are 3 moves the Steelers should look into prior to the season starting.

Steelers Joe Haden

1.) Steelers Should Reach Out To Cornerback, Joe Haden

Mark Kaboly reported early Monday morning that the Steelers were interested in bringing Haden back, but he had no interest. This was reportedly untrue as Haden commented when we published an article commenting on Kaboly's assumption.

The issue here is that the Steelers need depth as cornerback and not another starting one. It would be awesome to see Haden in the black and gold again, but it may take an injury or him accepted a reserve role to make that happen. With that said, the team should certainly reach out to Haden's camp and dive into the options for a reunion. It's still in the realm of possibility as he still hasn't landed with another team and the franchise is one unfortunate injury away from being in a tough spot at the position.

2.) Steelers Need To Cut A Running Back

Jaylen Warren has stepped up in the backfield as an undrafted free agent. Anthony McFarland only has 36 carries and 116 rushing yards in his two years with the Steelers. He has averaged just 3.2 yards per carry and there is no need to have him take up a roster spot. He had a solid first game of the preseason rushing for 56 yards on seven carries which may lead one to believe Benny Snell Jr. will get the boot here.

That is also a possibility, but Snell's special teams play gives him the edge over McFarland. Warren came in second after Najee Harris against the Detroit which leads one to believe he may have won the backup job. McFarland and Snell were both very unproductive last season totaling 39 carries for 101 yards. They averaged an abysmal 2.6 yards per carry. Warren was optimistic about his chances of making the roster a couple weeks ago, but now he may have a case to be the second running back on the depth chart.

3.) Steelers Take Chance On Veteran Offensive Lineman

There is no doubt that the offense needs a serious upgrade on the line. The play was poor once again versus the Lions and there are still some solid options out there on the free agency market. Veteran left tackle, Eric Fisher has 128 games of starting experience in his career and while he has dealt with some injuries in recent years, he was elected to the Pro Bowl in 2020 and is absolutely worth the potential investment.

If it's not Fisher, there certainly needs to be some sort of move this week in regards to the line. The offense has no chance of keeping up with the offensive firepower in their division and the AFC if the main weakness of the group isn't tampered with before the season begins in two weeks.
