If there is one person on the Pittsburgh Steelers that is taking the internet by storm, it would have to be George Pickens. He has looked like a superhuman any time that he touches the field making insane catches against some of the league's best defenders. During the 2022 season, he made what many considered to be the catch of the year in a game against the Cleveland Browns. Some people are even comparing that catch to the famous Odell Beckham Jr. catch.

Pickens Could Be Wasted With The Steelers
Even before the 2023 season has begun, Pickens has been able to put on a show with his continued acrobatic catching ability. He was able to make yet another insane one-handed catch over the Steelers second-round pick Joey Porter Jr. in training camp. The two have been going at it in Latrobe, PA this summer, pushing each other to be their very best. It looks like some of the old-school football that was going on in Pittsburgh back in the 1970s.

Although Pickens has been a monster during his one year with the Steelers, some people have questioned if his talent will keep up, or if he could be wasted with the Steelers. One person that was recently questioning the Steelers and if they can evolve his game is Mike Florio for NFL on NBC. While on his show, he used the failure of Chase Claypool in Pittsburgh and asked if that same fallout could happen with Pickens.
"With Claypool, we have to start asking, do they know how to use, do they know how to develop, do they know how to cultivate a talent like that, or is it wasted in the Pittsburgh offense? That's why it's more of a pressing question with Pickens."

What makes the Steelers so special is the way that they have been able to find special wide receivers through the draft without using top picks. Looking back through recent history, they were able to get Antonio Brown in the sixth round, Diontae Johnson in the third round, JuJu Smith-Schuster in the second round, and Pickens in the second round just to name a few.
These top-notch players were the main reason why Florio questioned if Pickens would fall off like Claypool did. Florio would even give Pickens a ton of praise saying no matter what, even if he is covered, he can still catch any ball.
"Get it to George Pickens. That is what I want to see." Florio then said, "I've seen enough from George Pickens to put him in the category of if he is covered, then he is still not covered. You have to have two guys on Pickens."

Although the Steelers have a ton of weapons on the offense currently, all the eyes will be on Pickens once the season starts. The way that he easily catches some of the toughest balls thrown his way, don't be surprised if he has a breakout season. He may even find his way into being one of the top five wide receivers in the league.

Pickens is no doubt the most exciting receiver that the Steelers have had since Brown, and he looks to make 2023 special. If he continues to grow like he has, he could be a once-in-a-generation talent.
