These trades have transformed the team and helped solidify its status as one of the premier franchises in professional football. From acquiring future Hall of Famers to making bold moves that paid off in the long run, here are some of the greatest trades in Pittsburgh Steelers history.

Jerome Bettis Trade (1996)

In 1996, the Pittsburgh Steelers engineered a trade with the St. Louis Rams that would forever alter the franchise's course. The Steelers acquired Jerome Bettis, affectionately known as "The Bus," along with a third-round draft pick, in exchange for a second-round pick and a fourth-round pick. This trade proved to be a masterstroke for the Steelers, as Bettis would become one of the most beloved players in team history.

His bruising running style and infectious personality endeared him to fans and teammates. Bettis played a vital role in the Steelers' offensive attack for nearly a decade, earning six Pro Bowl selections and helping the team reach the Super Bowl in 2006, where they emerged victorious over the Seattle Seahawks. His leadership on and off the field left an indelible mark on the Steelers' organization and cemented his legacy as one of the greatest players in team history.

This trade cemented the Steelers as one of the best bets on football teams during their time. They are very prominent in football fans in other countries like Canada and Australia. Even if you’re as far as New Zealand during that time, you can see that the Steelers are popular in each New Zealand online casino you frequent.

Minkah Fitzpatrick Trade (2019)

Some may say it's a little early to name All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick as one of the greatest Steelers trades of all-time. But the former Alabama standout is arguably the best at his position in today's game.

The Miami Dolphins drafted Fitzpatrick with the 11th overall pick in 2018. However, after rumors of Fitzpatrick being displeased with the ways in which he was being utilized on defense, Miami granted his request to seek a trade. Pittsburgh sent their 2020 first-round pick, a conditional 2020 fifth-round pick, and a conditional 2021 sixth-round selection to Miami in exchange for the rising star. The Steelers also got a 2020 fourth-rounder, and a 2021 seventh-rounder along with the transaction. Three total All-Pro selections, four Pro Bowls, and one Bart Starr Award later, the Steel City has no regrets.

Terry Bradshaw Draft-Day Trade (1970)

While not technically a trade, the Pittsburgh Steelers' decision to select Terry Bradshaw with the first overall pick in the 1970 NFL Draft is nevertheless one of the most consequential moves in franchise history. Bradshaw, a highly touted quarterback out of Louisiana Tech, faced skepticism and scrutiny early in his career, but would become one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.

Bradshaw's impact on the Steelers' offense was immeasurable. With his strong arm and fearless demeanor, he led the team to four Super Bowl titles in the 1970s, earning MVP honors in Super Bowls XIII and XIV. Bradshaw's performances in big moments earned him the nickname "The Blonde Bomber" and cemented his status as a Pittsburgh sports legend. His induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989 was a fitting tribute to his remarkable career and enduring legacy.

Casey Hampton Trade-Back (2001)

In the 2001 NFL Draft, the New York Jets were eager to slide up a few spots in the first round. Pittsburgh was a willing partner and a deal to move back to the 19th spot (from 16) sent a fourth and a sixth-round selection to the Steel City. With the 19th pick, the Steelers found their future stud at nose tackle.

Pittsburgh drafted Casey Hampton out of the University of Texas. At 6-1, 325 pounds, Hampton was larger than life. They used him to plug the middle and allow the middle linebackers to excel for years within the Steelers' defensive scheme. Hampton ended up making five Pro Bowls during his 12-year career.
