The Pittsburgh Steelers made a significant move by signing former Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson. Despite securing Wilson with a one-year deal for the veteran minimum, his intentions are resolute. Wilson aims to deliver five to seven years of high-level quarterback play for the Steelers, with the ultimate goal of capturing a seventh Super Bowl trophy for the city.

During an episode of the QB Unplugged Podcast aired on Lockerverse, AFC North quarterback Deshaun Watson of the Cleveland Browns shared his insights on the Steelers' 2024 offseason.

"It just made sense for [Wilson] to go there. I think it was them or New York, but New York, I feel like they're starting over. Pittsburgh feels like they've got pieces, just because of Tomlin. They're gonna compete. Welcome to the North, man, where things get real, real, real, real spooky".

Watson offered glowing praise for the Steelers' decision to acquire Wilson, extending a warm welcome to him in the AFC North. Additionally, Watson cleverly expressed his expectation for the Steelers to be a formidable force, attributing much of this belief to the leadership of Mike Tomlin.

"Pittsburgh's a good organization. It's crazy for me to say that, I'm just keeping it 100, because I'm a Brown. But at the end of the day you gotta give respect where respect is due. Tomlin is gonna have them boys right".

Watson openly acknowledged the excellence of the Steelers organization, despite the intense rivalry between the Steelers and Browns. He humorously noted that he's not expected to praise the Steelers, but he's simply stating what he's observed and analyzed. His willingness to give credit where it's due reflects his admirable respect for the team.

Moreover, Wilson emphasized his readiness to collaborate closely with the Steelers' newly appointed offensive coordinator, Arthur Smith. Recognizing Smith's proven track record and innovative approach to offensive strategy, Wilson eagerly anticipates the creative synergy and strategic planning that will unfold as they work together to elevate the team's performance to new heights.

In discussing his aspirations within the organization, Wilson highlighted his commitment to fostering a winning culture and contributing to the storied legacy of success associated with the Steelers franchise. With a blend of anticipation and determination, Wilson conveyed his readiness to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, fueled by a shared vision of excellence and a relentless pursuit of greatness on the gridiron.

Wilson divulged his envisioned timeline for his tenure in Pittsburgh, despite the Steelers signing him to a one-year deal at the veteran minimum. Remarkably, due to the Broncos shouldering the remainder of his salary, Wilson stands to earn approximately $40 million in 2024.

Looking beyond the current contract, Wilson recognizes that the Steelers will face decisions regarding his future with the team. However, he remains optimistic about the prospects of a long-term commitment, expressing his full confidence in such an outcome.

One intriguing aspect of Wilson's interview was his genuine excitement about not requiring a substantial salary from the Steelers. He sees this as an opportunity for the organization to allocate resources towards acquiring top-tier talent and constructing a formidable roster capable of competing at the highest level.

This insight holds significant weight, particularly considering the Steelers' impending need to renegotiate Wilson's contract should they wish to extend his tenure beyond one year. Wilson's remarks hint at his readiness to prioritize team success over personal financial gain. This suggests he might be willing to accept a lower salary to help build a talented roster.

Despite the promising addition of Wilson, the Steelers, under the guidance of Omar Khan, still have several key positions to address. These include securing a reliable center, acquiring another starting-caliber wide receiver, and bolstering depth at the quarterback position to serve as Wilson's backup.

While the 2024 season may seem distant, the Steelers are diligently preparing to position themselves as legitimate contenders, with the potential for additional impactful acquisitions on the horizon.
