The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a lot of optimism surrounding their offense as the 2024 season approaches. An obvious upgrade at quarterback was made, and the offense will hopefully look a lot different under new Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith. However, the optimism has started to dwindle as Pittsburgh's offensive line has been torn through by a serious of injuries. Rookie Troy Fautanu has been dealing with a knee injury, and Broderick Jones has been playing through a nagging arm injury. Now one of Pittsburgh's best lineman, Isaac Seumalo, has suffered a pectoral injury.

Seumalo is a clear leader on Pittsburgh's offensive line, and he is also one of their best and most experienced players. The injury was initially reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter, who said the left guard suffered a pectoral injury and is undergoing additional tests to determine the severity.

If the injury is serious and causes Seumalo to miss some time, the offensive line could seriously struggle. He is an above-average left guard in the league and is a key part of the offense as Pittsburgh continues to introduce young linemen. The severity of the injury is still unknown, but this isn't a good sign for Pittsburgh as they open their season on September 8th.

Steelers Could Start Another Rookie On The Offensive Line
Depending on the severity of Seumalo's injury, the Steelers may need to prepare Mason McCormick to start at left guard. Fautanu and Zach Frazier are two rookies that are already expected to start, and now Pittsburgh may be adding another young face to the line. Pittsburgh selected McCormick in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He was expected to sit on the bench during his rookie season and continue to develop until replacing James Daniels when he leaves in free agency following the 2024 season.

Pittsburgh's offensive line has the potential to be good, but it will certainly take some time for the unit to gel together and grow their chemistry, especially without Seumalo. Fans have seen pectoral injuries before, most recently with TJ Watt during the 2022 season. Watt missed some time, but eventually came back and was never fully healthy.
This is bad news for fans, but the severity of the injury is still unknown. The guard is still going through testing, and the results will give more insight into what the offensive line will look like during the 2024 season.
Update: Schefter reported that after the initial tests, things look good for Seumalo and the Steelers. He is still injured, but it is not deemed to be a season-ending injury. He may still miss time, but the worst outcome is ruled out.
Initial tests showed that Steelers guard Isaac Seumalo did not suffer a season-ending pectoral injury. The team still is weighing how long he could miss but as one source said, “We dodged a bullet.” https://t.co/ztNNyeNHr5
