The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to kick off their season on the road against the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Entering the game as three-point underdogs, the Steelers are not widely expected to secure a win in Atlanta, according to some pundits.

On Wednesday, Falcons Head Coach Raheem Morris addressed the media, expressing confidence in his team's overall health. However, he did share a concerning update regarding their star tight end, Kyle Pitts.

"And then Kyle [Pitts] was dealing with a little bit of a hamstring injury, so we kept him limited. Other than that, we are really healthy and thermally well."

Morris downplayed concerns about Pitts’ minor injury, emphasizing the importance of transparency when discussing any health issues. Although it’s unlikely Pitts will miss the game against the Steelers, hamstring injuries can be unpredictable, affecting players in different ways. Pitts missed Wednesday’s practice, and his status will certainly be something Steelers fans keep a close eye on.

Steelers' Arthur Smith

The Week 1 matchup carries extra significance for Steelers Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith, who spent the last three seasons as the Falcons’ head coach. Despite his efforts, Smith ended each season with a disappointing 7-10 record. Now, he’s looking to exact revenge against the team that dismissed him just a season ago.

Smith is well-acquainted with Pitts, having incorporated him into his offensive schemes. Pitts, a highly touted tight end, has yet to fully meet the high expectations due to injuries and limited involvement in the offense.

In 2023, Kyle Pitts recorded 53 receptions for 667 yards and three touchdowns. While these numbers are solid, many expect much more from him. Pitts will be looking to elevate his performance in 2024.

Steelers Are Without A Key Player In Isaac Seumalo

As the Steelers prepare to face the Falcons, both teams are relatively healthy since it's Week 1. According to Morris' recent update, the Falcons appear to be in better shape, but the Steelers aren’t in a bad position either. However, the absence of Isaac Seumalo is a significant blow for Pittsburgh.

The Steelers are expected to have Jaylen Warren available for Week 1 despite a minor injury he recently dealt with. Warren has reassured everyone that he’s fine. Rookie Troy Fautanu, who has been nursing a knee injury, has also returned to practice. Another rookie to watch is Roman Wilson, who has been sidelined with an injury but might be ready to play in the season opener as well.

To start the season strong, the Steelers will need to secure a road win against Atlanta. With a brutal 2024 schedule ahead, this game is seen as a must-win by many close to the team, despite the Steelers entering as underdogs. Pitts’ health will be a crucial factor to watch as the game approaches.
