The Pittsburgh Steelers' 2024 season ended in a brutal fashion. When a team snowballs and regresses the way the Steelers did in 2024, it's reasonable to assume that major changes may happen across the board. For most organizations, that's true, but the Steelers do things differently. Mike Tomlin is loyal to a fault and doesn't like to fire coaches, much like his boss, who shares a similar reluctance.

After the season, Tomlin spoke with the media and hinted that some real changes could be on the horizon. While Steelers fans will have to see it to believe it, some of those changes are easy to predict, and others are harder to pin down. Whether it's adjustments to the coaching staff or shifts in player roles, the uncertainty looms large as the team looks ahead.
Adam Schefter joined The Pat McAfee Show on Friday to offer his prediction on what changes may come inside the Steelers organization. While he's not expecting anything dramatic, Schefter believes there will be some turnover, both on the roster and within the coaching staff, though it might not be as drastic as some fans might hope.
"The offseason is young, let's give this some time," Schefter said. "I don't know exactly what they're gonna do, but the head coach himself said what he said. I mean, I just think he was speaking in a general term. I'm not expecting major changes. Like what do we think is gonna happen? I think it's typical of any roster in any given year. Turnover, however much it does, there are some changes on the coaching staff. I don't know that it's gonna be any more dramatic in Pittsburgh than it is anywhere else."
Schefter made it clear that he's not expecting any major changes for the Steelers in the near future. One thing Steelers fans need to accept is that Tomlin will be back to coach the team in 2025. He's not going to be fired or traded, as he put it, teams should save their time from even trying.

While Tomlin has certainly upset fans recently, he's steadfast in shouldering the blame for the team's struggles and is determined to find a way to turn things around, especially given that the Steelers haven't won a playoff game since the 2016 season.
Steelers' Mike Tomlin Doesn't Have A Great Coaching Tree
Tomlin has always been able to face adversity with resilience, which is a testament to his leadership. That ability to handle tough situations has made him a respected figure in the NFL. However, one notable flaw in Tomlin's tenure has been the lack of success from his coaching tree. Despite being highly regarded as a football mind, Tomlin’s former assistants have rarely gone on to achieve success as head coaches themselves.
It's puzzling that someone as respected as Tomlin hasn't been able to inspire greatness in his offensive and defensive coordinators. For a coach of his caliber, it's surprising that the staff under him hasn't consistently proven to be successful in other roles, raising questions about why his influence hasn’t extended beyond Pittsburgh's locker room.
Some blame Tomlin, claiming that his control over too many aspects has contributed to the team's failures. Others point fingers at Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith, Defensive Coordinator Teryl Austin, or even Matt Canada before his firing. Regardless of who shoulders the blame, the Steelers' defense failed to perform when it mattered most, and the offense faltered in critical moments.

Russell Wilson and Justin Fields could both be on their way out of Pittsburgh, with questions surrounding Najee Harris' future as a free agent. There's even speculation about whether the Steelers will trade George Pickens as he enters the final year of his rookie contract. While all of these questions will eventually be answered as the offseason progresses, Schefter isn’t predicting any major moves, which will likely frustrate fans looking for significant changes at the top.
