The Pittsburgh Steelers running back position has been something of focus for quite some time now. Of course, Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren have created a nice one-two punch, but something still is missing from this Pittsburgh rushing attack. Harris had his fifth-year option declined in the 2024 offseason after an above-average 2023 season, leading many Steelers insiders to believe Harris' time in the Steel City has come to an end. Harris will be a free agent, and there’s growing expectation that the Steelers will part ways with their former first-round pick.

Given Harris' uncertain future, Pittsburgh may look to draft a new running back in the upcoming draft. ESPN’s Matt Miller, in his latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft, has the Steelers selecting Quinshon Judkins from Ohio State in the second round. Judkins has been turning heads as one of the top running backs in the country, showing off his impressive ability to break tackles and make explosive plays. The Steelers could certainly use that kind of talent to further solidify their ground game moving forward.
If Harris is indeed gone, the Steelers would be smart to invest in a young, dynamic running back like Judkins. His size, vision, and ability to contribute in both the running and passing game could be exactly what the Steelers need to build a more well-rounded offense. With Warren’s role solidifying and Judkins ready to step in, Pittsburgh could have the foundation for a potent rushing attack in the years ahead.
"Najee Harris is set to hit free agency, and his return to Pittsburgh is far from guaranteed," Miller said. "Judkins would be an ideal replacement. He has the downhill power of Harris, but better speed to rip off the chunk plays missing from the Steelers' offense, as evidenced by his 28 runs of 10 or more yards."
The Steelers also face an important decision regarding Warren. They’ve been fortunate to have such a productive player in Warren, especially considering he was an undrafted free agent. However, Warren’s future with the team is uncertain, as the Steelers need to pick up his tender if they want to continue using his services.

As an unrestricted free agent, Warren is expected to be extended in the 2025 offseason. If that happens, a dynamic duo of Judkins and Warren would certainly create an exciting and potent backfield for Pittsburgh moving forward.

Judkins, who played in a highly talented backfield alongside another star running back in TreVeyon Henderson, still managed to be incredibly productive. His contributions were vital to the Buckeye's 2024 National Championship run, where he racked up 1,060 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on 194 carries.

The fact that he achieved such impressive numbers while sharing the workload with another elite back only enhances his draft stock. Judkins' ability to shine in a crowded backfield speaks to his potential as a lead back in the NFL.
Steelers Could Fix Their Running Game With Quinshon Judkins
With the potential departure of Harris and the uncertainty surrounding Warren’s future, Judkins could be the perfect addition to the Steelers' backfield. His ability to thrive in a committee while still producing at an elite level makes him an exciting prospect.

Paired with Warren, who’s proven to be a valuable asset, Judkins could help give the Steelers a strong, versatile running game for years to come. This potential pairing could be the spark the Steelers need to elevate their offense and become a more balanced and dangerous team in the 2025 season and beyond.
