The Pittsburgh Steelers have been connected to virtually every single potential available quarterback throughout the 2025 offseason. No one is quite sure what the franchise is planning to do at the position long-term, but the goal is reportedly to have Aaron Rodgers be under center for at least one year. Unfortunately, the veteran quarterback is not making things easy, which has led to speculation running rampant throughout the Steel City. Time will tell what the franchise decides to do, but the 2025 NFL Draft is quickly approaching and there are still a lot more questions than there are legitimate answers.

Pittsburgh could have plans to rely on Rodgers or Mason Rudolph, but there is always the possibility that the team selects a signal-caller in the first round come Thursday. This would certainly be questionable based on how the quarterback class is shaping up; however, the Steelers need to find a long-term solution sooner rather than later, and have done a tone of homework on this group of prospects.
NFL news broke on Friday evening regarding the Seattle Seahawks and Sam Howell. The former fifth-round pick of the Washington Commanders is reportedly being shopped after the franchise brought back Drew Lock.

Many are going to want to paint Howell as a trade target for the Steelers, but that's not necessarily the right angle to look at when discussing his possible departure from Seattle. The Seahawks have a very specific contract with Sam Darnold that can be escaped after the first year. Lock is a backup at best, and the organization could have some intentions to draft one, especially after General Manager John Schneider didn't rule it out.
This provides a new twist in Steelers General Manager Omar Khan's possible quest to draft a difference-maker who can make a positive difference for the organization moving forward. One of the main reasons why is the decision to move on from a second-round pick to trade for former Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf. It was necessary based on the positional group, but it could come with a steeper price.

Any time that a quarterback has been reported to be on the market, Pittsburgh comes up in conversation because of the current situation. However, Howell doesn't make much sense in the Steel City. Sure, he could come to town to back-up Rudolph, but the plan within the front office is likely still to have Rodgers, Rudolph and a rookie as the top three. On top of that, Skylar Thompson is around, too.
Seattle could be thinking about the future and decide to take a quarterback like Jalen Milroe in the second round, a prospect that the team had in for a Top 30 visit. The Seahawks also reportedly hosted Tyler Shough, who is another potential Steelers target. The combination of moving on from Howell and interesting contract that Darnold has could mean that the Seahawks are a legitimate contender to steal a signal-caller out from under Pittsburgh.
Answers will finally be coming once the NFL Draft begins, but the Steelers' issues at the quarterback position will not be officially solved until Rodgers makes up his mind regarding his future. This is a fascinating situation that is unfolding and Pittsburgh could be on the positive end if the goal is to draft the future of the franchise in the first round. If not, all bets are off, and a team like the Seahawks could cause some problems.

Steelers Have No One To Blame But Themselves For Complete Quarterback Disaster
Pittsburgh has been playing with fire ever since Ben Roethlisberger retired. It will be interesting to see how the organization approaches the quarterback position in 2025, but the more important issue to focus on is the future. Rodgers and Rudolph can't be the answer, but a draft selection could be. Unfortunately, with the lack of a second-round pick, and now another team in the mix, things just got even tougher.
